OK for those of you that haven't met our dogs, Angel is pure white and I am sure part polar bear. She has a long, thick, soft coat of fur with a SUPER thick undercoat. Seriously she gets in the pool and it takes her a couple of HOURS even in 100 degree weather to dry out. So that being said, she LOVES to go outside and just lay in the sun in the summer! When she comes in her fur is really warm to the touch, but she seems to think it is awesome. She gets this look of doggie bliss on her face and just loves it. I was told long ago NOT to shave her because 1)she has light skin and 2) the heavy fur acts as a cooler in the summer and insulation in the winter. Was just curios if anyone else had a long haired dog that was crazy enough to lay in the full sun when it is 100+ degrees out side?

We have English Bulldogs who have issues regulating heat and my oldest loves to sunbath. She just rolls around out there all happy. I'm sure the groud is hot too, but she just loves it. The other one would rather be in the house, but if outside, she hides in the shade.

My lab LOVES to go out and lay in the sun for about 15 minutes... then he wants back in the a/c. laughing.gif

Our German Shepherd will do the same thing. She will go out during the hotest part of the day and take a nap on the hot pool deck. Then she will go for a swim and come running in the house and finish her nap on the cool tile floor. She is crazy. But we love her.

our dane loves to do it. she has short hair tho

my staffys are so funny with it they will lay in the sun even when they are in the house... they will find the spot where the sun is shining in and go lay in it and move with it throughout the day!

My Min Pin does it every day..
She feels like she's on fire when she comes in after her sun bathing...
Rusty
Our Chow/Shepard mix (read: LONG HAIR) does that also.... really warm to the touch when she comes inside.... Must feel good on the old bones - she's at least 13.

my Akita use to do it and one day my mom had him shaved cause she was sick of his hair... then the dog got sunburnt.. NO SERIOUSLY. sun burnt and my mom got to spend 3 times a day giving him a lotion massage it was hysterical. the lotion itself cost like 150 bucks and for the rest of his life he would come to her at breakfast lunch and dinner to be pet LOL the dog was a riot.

but now I have 3 chocolate labs and they sunburn between 10-1 everyday. Its like they have a friggin schedule.

Jazmin loves to lay and be in the sun, I call her in and she ignores me... she loves the water and sun.... Took this Memorial Day, I put a price tag on her and she wore it all day... she was only a dollar, but no one wanted her.. LOL

Well Angel is not an old lady yet (about 4.5 years old) but she sure loves it.

Our other dog, Turbo, is 1.5 years old and a long haired flat coat retriever and gets in to pool lots, but won't sunbathe like Angel.

Our foster puppy is a 8 week old little one and loves going out in the morning or evening, but for the most part prefers being inside the house. He has lots of sleeping to do on his pillow so he can grow. icon_biggrin.gif

My Pomeranian can't get enough sun. She is so fluffy but she plops right in the sun, squints her eyes and starts to bake. I don't know how she stands it especially with all that fur dunno.gif

The white mutt, Scrappy sticks to the shade, will not go into the sun in the summer unless it's in the house coming in through the window. Then he'll lay in the sunshine on the carpet and move with it through the day. laughing.gif

my mostly black and some white boston terrier will lay on the pool deck in the sun when its 110 degrees, just like angel I see doggy bliss in her face. Crazy.

Our black and tan dobie does this. He will lay outside in the sun all afternoon and come in burning hot and drink two entire bowls of water, but he won't come in if you call him, he just stares at you with that 'leave me alone' look. After he is done drinking, he goes and curls up against the sliding glass door inside the curtain so he can get more sun. If I am home for the day just hanging out or working around the house, he will lay by that door getting sun literally all day.

Tarrah And Bear do this all the time even if they can lay inside they still seem to spend a few hours just laying in the sun.

Yes, Boston Terrier and Boston Terrier mix both like to sunbathe.
Maybe the warm ground feels good.

We have a mostly black, short hair Chihuahua and it will be 110* outside and he will be laying up against our block wall in the direct sun for hours. He comes in super hot to the touch and then lays under the ceiling fan on his back with all paws up for about ten min, then he gets really hyper and runs as fast as he can in and out of rooms and up and down the hall. My dog may be a little nutty.

I just thought my pit was nuts! He'll lay in the sun till it's time to hydrate & come inside for some AC. But yeah, loves the sun!

We have a white boxer, has light pink skin, I worry about him laying in the sun, do they make doggie sunscreen?
BLKturbo91
We have a boston terrior and a puggle they will both go out a lay in the heat most of the day when we are at work. They both come it smokin hot to the touch as soon as I take the cover off the pool off they go straight in swim around for a bit then back to the sun. I think they are totaly crazy.

Belle would lay in direct sun in the AZ heat all the time. Their body temperature is about 6 degrees higher than ours so that counters it a bit.

Gretchen (pit) lays in the HOT sun all the time. Her belly and arm pits actually tan to a near black during the summer.

This is when she is not eating children, right?
