So, the time has come to sell the house and I am leaving on Deployment end of the month. I have an opportunity to store my 5TH Wheel at a buddies house in a large open lot. The only concern I have is that the lot does have grass growing on it. The grass is dead right now so I was going to take my mower up there and chop it down pretty low, spray the crap out of it with round up and kill all the grass in the spot I want to park. My concern is should I worry about putting down some type of weed barrier and try to stake it into the ground or something to make sure the grass stays dead under the trailer? I have always heard it's bad to park cars over grass for extended periods of time because the grass will rust the frame....I am talking about storing this trailer for about 9 months total and really don't want to hurt my trailer at all....I take really good care of my stuff and do not want to make a bad decision here. Any advice????

Grass or weeds wont grow very well in the shade of the trailer

Not sure about the grass, but I know that storing on dirt will dry out (crack) tires quicker than if on concrete. My first set of tires dried up real quick when parked on dirt and now that I'm on concrete they are holding up much better. You might try putting some plywood sheets down and park on that. I know you can get wheel covers but that only blocks the sun and moisture will still be pulled out of tires if on dirt.

Thanks Free Ride...i had planbned to park the trailer on some pressure treated 2X8's sp they would not be in contact with the ground...don't want the trailer to sink doen either.

sheet of black plastic or any color for that matter. stake the corners. punch a few holes in it for drainage. or buy weed block. sandbags would be even better. you don't want the barrier flapping in the wind, might scratch the trailer.

i was kind of thinking the same thing about the tarp...i have a couple tarps i could put down and stake the corners and use some sand bags to hold down the edges...i was thinking that would be the best way to do it....

the more i think about it, you might just have your buddy spray the area underneath the trailer 2-3 times while your gone?

weeds/grass dont like trying to live in constant shade. i store my trailer at my folks house or my bros house during the summer and very shortly after parking it, whatever vegetation is under it dies off. be sure to cover your tires from the sun and elements. the best thing to park your tires on is gravel, it allows water to drain away from the tires and not accumulate where the tires is in contact with the ground as it does when on dirt, concrete and asphalt

i am thinking it would be tough to get gravel under there because it would just sink into the dirt over time...we'll have to see.
