Looks like the best deal on a 230 40amp is this one http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/pro...42923_200342923

Does anyone have another recommendation for me?

Hypertherm is a good brand.

That all depends on what you buy from them. Some of their welders and plasma cutters are made by Hobart, and Lincoln, just re-branded.

I have one of their 135 amp gas/no gas MIG welders, and its been a trooper for me.. great welds.. for far cheaper than anything else I could find. Along with the auto-dimming helmet that I got from them for around 50 bones works awesome.

Is some of the other items they sell questionable.. yes... you just have to research what your buying.

Basically just do your research.

Also do a google search for coupon codes... I save an additional 60 bucks on my order by searching for about 5 minutes on coupon codes. =)

Hypertherm is a good brand.

Where I bought my Miller mig welder they were telling me Hypertherm was the one to buy. I didnt listen to them, I bought the Miller spectum 625 X-treme. I was using it a few minutes ago for one of my sons friends. Works great. It is rated for 1/2 clean but will go though 7/8. I bought it for a Caltrans job where I had to trim down 600' of 1/2" plate and an inspection station. that was the excuse, because I wanted if for toys!

I have a Hypertherm that's hooked up to a Plasma cam for about 5 years and has not skipped a beat.

I bought one of the chinese 220v ebay specials for $300. I also bought a bunch of extra tips for another $20. I have not had a problem with it. Granted I have not cut anything thicker than 1/4". I bought it mainly to cut sheet metal and make tabs. So it all depends on what you plan on doing.

I used to borrow a Miller 120v, don't remember the model, and the chinese one does just as well.

I would not recommend the chinese welders. I use a Miller MIG and TIG.
