Me's Better Half
Here's the deal, I have an 06 WW and I run a Honda 2000 generator most of the time. I'd like to be able to switch between the Honda and my 5500 Onan without having to unplug and plug in to the big generator. I have called several RV dealers out here and nobody seem to know that anything exists. I know the newer THs have some sort of switching system between the built in generator and an external one. Does anybody have any ideas of what it is called and where I can get one? Thanks in advance.

PM inexcess and see if he thinks you could use an automatic transfer switch. The switch is usually used between shore power and an inverter, but you might be able to hook up two generators.
Mongo
Its probably not code, but 2 breakers might be cheaper than a transfer switch...
RhinoMan
When you run your Honda 2000 don't you plug it into the shoreline outlet? I run both a 2000 and inboard 5500 and never disconnect the Honda 2000 when the 5500 needs to run.
Robbie
Wouldn't you need some type of pigtail to plug both Gens into the power receptacle?

Is the trailer 30 or 50 amp service? Let. Me know and I will come up witha solution

Greg,
Mine is a 50 amp. on a weekend warrior
I would like to keep my Honda 2000 running and be able to turn on my onan 5500 whenever I need to run the microwave without going outside and changing the plugs.

Shouldnt be too hard. ATS with the small gen on the resting side of the ATS, the big gen on the working side of the ATS...

Its just too bad 50a ATS is twice the price of a 30a... I have had good luck using power relays from Grainger ( about $30) on my old trailers 30a service and some service vans at an old job. But they can chatter as they transfer off the gen as the voltage drops down...
O Soto Gari
he got hooked up by a friend of mine..

I don't know what my Fuzion has but I hook the shore power to the 2000. When I need more power I just fire the 5500.. when done I shut it off and it switches back to the 2000 without missing a beat.

This isn't a problem at all with a transfer switch and installation I am working on a solution that would not require installation and could be shipped anywhere ready to use

I have most of the pieces put together but the week went to hell in a hurry and i had to put it aside I will get this wrapped on Sunday with pricing

I misunderstood the situation. I assumed the large generator was hardwired in the trailer and did not need to be plugged into the shore line recepticle.

I thought most RV gens were wired to that big receptacle on the side of the RV, and you had to have the big shore cable plugged in to it to get gen power.

Not all Robbie. My Fuzion Genny is hardwired in. For shore power I have a big Arse cord that I plug into a receptacle on the outside of the toyhauler and run it to shore power.I run that to my 2000. If I fire up the 5500 it automatically switches over to it.
TEE
Camping world has what you need I have it in my trailer for the same thing and it works great and pretty easy to install
ATS and it come in 50 AMP I think I paid about $200

ok after working up all of the pricing to make a transfer switch that would be waterproof and be a plug and play device needing no installation it would be too costly.

Robbie I am close enough to you that I can install a 50 amp transfer switch in the trailer to take care of this.....let me know if you are interested
