i have a 2008 fleetwood bounder 34g, 35'3" long ford v-10. love the v-10, pulls great, gets great mileage (5-6 just kidding) and i pull a 22' cargo with lt rail and 2 quads. i have never had 1 issue with the ford, never overheated, goes as fast as i can go or want to go most places, and i have a 400+ mile range. i put the banks air intake, flowmaster muffler and diablo-sport chip in mine, you can really tell the difference! i am just as fast as my buddy in his 40' country coach and 24' stacker, and the mileage is close. love the bounder!!!!!

I'd reccomend the Workhorse chassis with the 8.1L that way you get an Allison as well

Yup....WH with the 8.1L and Allison 5 or 6 speed (depending on year).
Tons of torque, and the WH chassis handles really well.

I would suggest no more than 32' with one slide if you are going to pull an enclosed, extra slides and footage starts to add up on the cgvwr, especially if you intend to pull some major grades. Personally I am biased towards the 8.1 in the workhorse chassis and the allison is a bonus. Lots of Bounders out there for good reason they are set up well and very well priced.
Somebody on here had a really nice setup for a good price.

i am a tad over the cgvw, under the gvw by a few hundred lbs. 26750 total. 22k chassis, 26k combined. the v-10 does very well, and the storage and ride is better with a ford chassis. i do not go over any passes, but my 6 hour drive is littered with 1/2 to 1 mile grades. learning in my old age to take it easy on the big hills (trying my best)

GM 8.1 or Ford V-10 are both great motors with similar outputs. Both will get around the same abysmal mileage, and should carry a low 30 footer with an enclosed just fine. You're not going to win a race with either engine, but my buddy's V-10 pulled the I-8 grade out of San Diego a little faster than our 8.1 did, but not enough to matter.
One thing to watch with the 8.1s is they tend to burn a surprising amount of oil even on a new/healthy engine, so check it every tank.
The 5 spd Allison and 5 spd Torqshift are pretty close as well. The older (pre 2003 or 2004, depending on manufacturer), 2 valve V-10s with the 4 spd 4R100 are both definitely inferior though.

Thanks for the tips guys. Is there a big deference in fuel milage between diesel and gas?

seems a diesel can get better mileage, but as soon as you load them up, they get right back down to 6-7 like us gassers.

I have a 2007 or 8 35ft double slide Georgie Boy Pursuit, it has the V10 and that thing seems like it has more power then my excursion, it scoots, but I stick to 55 when towing (just me) I got about about 8 mpg towing my 16 foot flatbed with my old tatum.
Could be different now, but when I was looking the tow ratings on the chevy was 3500 you had to get the ford chassis to get 5k!
I would say that white alfa pusher is a great deal though.

What is your price range? When I was looking I decided to go with an older DP instead of a newer gasser. I am know thinking of selling our DP. It is a 98 Fleetwood Discovery with a 330hp Cummins and Allison 6 speed. I am going to be making a great deal on it to someone, I just need to wrap up some loose ends first. If you are serious and need something ASAP I could make it happen.......

just drove my girlfriends moms MH this past weekend. It has a ford V-10 in it. Other than gas mileage, its great. I had the same motor in my last truck. Sold it with 100K miles and never had a single problem with it.
The motorhome is for sale BTW. I think its about 30'. Its an 01' with 27K miles. I can get more details if you would like. Shoot me a PM if interested

i also had my hitch beefed up by a local hitch/welding shop. he said it's now good for 7-8k. piece of mind when i tow my 20' cargo with lt rail and 2 quads (6-6500lbs) well worth $500.
