Like the title says, motorhome paint? I know OB got his done a while back, I remember a thread about it. I would like to know where to get it done. I have a chance to by class A for very little money, but it was clear coated a long time ago and it is approx still half clear coated and it looks horrible. The motorhome itself is in pretty good shape, but I would like to price out paint prior to moving forward. I hope Ocotillo Boy will chime in here. Thanks

His info is on the first post.
Make sure you refer GD.com and me for the "offroad guy" discount. He's a Dez racer and takes good care of us.
Somewhere in my thread is says how much. Under 3K I think for a 36' Class A with a slide.
Came with a warranty and I'm VERY happy with the job they did.

The Paint Department does awesome work, but cost money. They quoted me on a 40' moho $15k (2 yrs ago) . But the first question they asked was what year/make it was so they could determine if it was worth doing. Kinda odd question, but did not think to much of it as I was not going to spend that much.

What about a wrap? Is the wrap cheaper than paint?

I'll be lurking here because I've been thinking about having my coach painted too. I was guessing $10k (36' class A) for mine, but if OB got his done for 3k, well, that's more like it.

Used them before, they have full booths, most people painting mohos / trlrs just park them in a shop and hope for the best. The work they do is first rate, if they are a little more expensive, they are worth it, I'd hate to spend my hard earned money for an OK paint job

my friends dad bought a used DP a few years back and had new stickers put on (don't think it was a wrap) and changed the color scheme for about $2-3K. But if OB's guy paints for that same $$ I'd go with paint.

If you're considering a wrap make sure you call my buddy Tim Cecil at
www.Signpros.com and tell him Dan Kaatz referred you. He will definitely take care of you.

Update on the wrap...I called gator wraps and they told me that an rv with clear coat is very hard to wrap because the material they use will lift and it won't look right. BTW a wrap on a 31' class a is $3800 just for the sides.

Absolutely he should make money man...I'm the first to understand that. Plus he knows some of the dudes I used to work with at McKenzie's so I'd like to throw the business his way. I'll keep you all updated. OB thanks for his number man.

What always made me nervous about painting my moho, was the plastic and trim pieces? Do they pull and paint those? They have to crack?

Hey OB, how has it held up? I have spoken to a lot of painters lately and a few of them say a paint job for less than $7000 won't hold up...I find that hard to believe.

I find that hard to believe also. He uses a really good paint (Emron?). He paints all the Fire Trucks for LA County.
You are close to me, come check it out!

Oh, holding up GREAT!

I did not call Tim at Signpros...I actually picked up another motorhome that was not in need of paint so as of now, I dont need to deal with this...I did work at McKenzies for a few years a while back, I dont remember a Tim, but I dont remember what I ate for breakfast either

Imron is a polyurethane paint...extremely durable...but almost impossible to repair, based on what I have been reading. Personally I think it would be ok on an RV.
AJsandfam
Aug 14 2010, 07:24 PM
Imron is chit, it's fleet paint and I'm 99% sure it's still only available in a single stage app. Meaning the gloss and base are together instead of a base then clear layed over it. It is durable but a biatch to blend if you need an area to be fixed. 15yrs painting and happen to Paint class A's out here in the valley. We use PPG basecoat clearcoat. We do restoration work on class A's. Don't fret though that Imron will with stand rock chips.
