I was windering if there is a type or tint of goggles that helps with the sun glare when the sun is straight over head? Last weekend we were at Buttercup and at about noon I had a hard time seeing much of anything. Everything just looked flat and you couldn't make out the contours of the dunes. I have Progrip goggles with the light sensitive lenses and they were useless. Just wondering what everyone that goes out there all the time uses.

I've heard the snow lenses help a lot, never tried them though.

Go to Oakley.com they have the different lense options there and they show which ones work best for the sun...they also show you how they actually change your view.

The Scott photo sensitive lenses are my favorites so far. Visibility is still poor but it helps. 10-2pm just usually sucks for riding (winter).

taping the top part of the lens makes a visor of sorts to help block the sun glare
i use the smoke lenses during the day, helps some, but polarized sungalsses help more.

Middle of summer you're going to have a hard time seeing period during the mid day sun. You might try a good sun glass under your goggles Maui Jims are great for glare and that might help but paying that much for a pair of sunglasses isn't for everybody.

I'm thinking something polarized. I'll have to look around and see what is offered for my Pro Grips. Might also help having enough sense to not be out there in the heat of the day in the middle of July.

I suppose also in the winter the angle of the sun will be lower to the south and not straight over head. I gotta say that at times I couldn't tell the difference between flat and a steep incline. It was spooky bigtime.

Telling you Yellow lenses and duct tape the top half, looks gay but even works in the winter !!!!

Varget, I have tried polarized, mirrored, smoked, clear, yellow, rose, and blue lenses. Nothing will bring out the contrast you are looking for. The sun is shining directly overhead and there are no shadows at that time to make everything stand out. Just slow down. I know it isn't as fun as hauling ass but you can get seriously hurt or seriously dead by launching off of a dune you thought kept going. Don't worry about those behind you because they can't see any better and are probobly more scared than you.

Actually you are very right. The best idea is to slow down and look closer. Which reminds me when we first got there Friday afternoon we went for a quick spin and I fould a witches' eye in the first 15 min. Visibility was way better than mid day. Never saw it till it was right the F in front of my wheels. It all looked flat in front of me and I see my front wheels droping into it. I hit it pretty hard and went peter pan over the bars and head first into the sand. I got real lucky and only had a sore neck. Seriously, the first thing to touch the sand was my helmet. Got real lucky. Any advantage for visibility I can get I'll take.
