My bulldog has a condition called a Prolapsed Urethra, has anybodies dog had to experience this? I am having a difficult time finding a good, trustworthy vet that seems to know what they are talking about! I have been told thousands of dollars in surgery for this. I need a second/third opinion on this.

Thank you!

Ben, I don't own a bulldog so I don't have first hand knowledge, but I did find this reference for vets specializing in bulldogs on the internet from a bulldog website. There are a couple of vets in San Diego listed there.

I just texted my brother on this. He bought a bulldog several months ago and the breeder reccomended a San Diego guy that specializes. I'll post the name when he gets back to me.

We use Dr Judy vet in El Cajon. He was recommend to us form the San Diego Bull dog rescue.

I've heard from a few that the guy in Riverside is the best for bull dogs.

Thanks for all the replies! My Ramona vet referred me to a specialist in La Mesa yesterday morning and we waited 3 hours while the bulldog was gushing blood everywhere! I asked for a doctor and told the nurses that this was urgent/becoming a bigger problem. Aside from all the BS I went through at this particular vet, I did learn that he does need surgery ASAP. I just don't think these people are capable of getting the job done. The first doctor came in and flat out said he has never seen this before, and it would be a "learning experience" for him. That's really reassuring!

I am familiar with Dr. Butchko. My parents took all of our pets to him when I was younger. I suppose he is the bulldog expert, eh? I will give him a call to set up an appointment tomorrow. As for the bulldog, he show absolutely zero signs of discomfort. He doesn't sip a beat! Still loves to play, doesn't seem to be in any pain at all. I am amazed, but still very worried. The bleeding has been very minimal today. He has been under careful watch and indoors away from the other dogs.

Has anyone ever seen this situation before though?

Thanks again!

We use Dr. Judy for all of our pets. We've been going to him for over 20 years. Wow! Can't believe it's been that long. Great vet in my opinion. He seems to really care. He's even shed some tears for a couple of our pets that he cared for from the time they were pups and kittens until they got so old that he had to put them down.

Dr. Butchko is 1 of only 2 vets in California that are recommended by AKA for English Bulldogs. People come from all over the US with their bullys to see him.

I can't recommend El Cajon Valley Vet on Johnson Avenue in El Cajon enough. Great Drs and staff that have been there for many years.

My two year old Olde English Bulldog and our three month old English Bulldog pup love them.

x3 for Dr. Butchco in Riverside, I take my Great Danes there and he always has at least 10 bulldogs in the waiting room
waiting to be seen.

I 2nd this! Dr. Butchko is the man. He has been our doctor for our bullies for the past 12 years (since we got #1). He has delivered our puppies, done all of our basic care, any surgeries we have needed over the years and the price has always been fair and he knows exactly what he is talking about. I know it seems far, but people travel across the country to see him, he is THAT GOOD! Good luck with your puppy!
