Hey guys, I was in Mammoth last week and we got hit with a down pour. I soon realized i had a leak that was never there before. I climbed on the roof and found some Dicor in a corner where water pooled was dry and cracked right at the corner where the fiberglass cap meets the roofline. I covered it and the leak stopped and as soon as the rain was done I looked at it closer. I know I need to reseal this section now but as a temp fix incase it rains again before I have a chance to fix it I cleaned it up and covered the area with some foil tape I got at the RV store. My trailer is stored about 50 miles from my home so I need to wait until a hot sunny day I have off to get out and fix it properly. The foil tape stuff seems real damn sticky and worked great. My question is how hard will it be to remove, and will it cause any damage to the rubber membrane roof material being there?

wow.. nobody?

I would pm the rv guy sponser, he'd probably know.
I have heard you should remove the silicone and resilicone all caulking occassionally, not to mention treat the rubber roof?

Its a 2007 model year and I spot checked and repaired a few trouble spots in the past. My plan this season is to scrape and replace all the Dicor around the vents and replace with a 3M product I found with a longer lifespan. I used some 3M UV4000 on the vertical sections on the front and rear corners and it is 100% better than what the trailer came with. Its a messy job but needs to be done periodically on all RV's.

I bought stuff like that and keep it in my th. I've used it once in a small spot on mine and a 4foot section on a freinds that got a rip in the one piece roof. It works great. I also got some of the liquid roof repair and coated over the joints. I dont know if it's the same brand but if not its close.

Just ordered a 4"x50' roll of the white Eternabond Miracle RV roof tape... read a lot of good reviews of it on other forums. I'll let ya know how it works. Think I will try to do the front cap seam, rear seam and use the rest around the AC and vents. Not cheap though $90 for a roll of tape, 4" roller and shipping.

Well I finished the front cap and the rear seam also. Word of advice to anyone using this Eternabond... it looks like it is the right tool for the job but make sure you have it exactly where you want it before letting it touch the surface because once it touches it grabs on and there is no pulling it off to re-align. It is amazingly sticky. I learned that if you clean up the Dicor on the roof with the Etrnaclean or acetone real well then the tape will stick right to it and there s no need to remove it. If you have silicon then yes that will need removed. I spent the first day getting all the old sealant off and cleaning it up real well. I then put a fresh bead of new Dicor 501 at the seam and let it set over night. I returned the second day and put overlapping 5" strips of the Eternabond on. I am happy with it. Looks much better and I don't see how moisture can ever get under it. Time will tell. But I do know this. If it ever needs redone then its going to a shop because I don't know how I'll ever get this back off.

This is a pic about an hour into removing the old nasty Dicor that had dried out

This is a shot of the same area after I was done

I wish I would have seen this thread sooner...I replaced my EPDM rubber roof on my MH last spring, and part of it was removing the metal trim that covers the seam between the cap and the EPDM. I removed the trim piece, scraped off the sealant and replaced it with new...it comes in an inch wide roll and is sticky. I then reattached the trim piece and caulked the edges.

Your solution will work very well...but you will NEVER be able to replace the stuff you put down without making a mess of your existing roof material...!!!

MossLager
Well I hope I won't have to mess with this particular area again.
