What kind of straps were they?

you are gonna get the "all these claims by other people are making all our insurance rates go up " i say do whats best for you ,if that were most of the guys sayiing that ,would turn in a claim in that situation . you paid for the insurance for a case just like this . i bet it's gonna cost quite a bit for the repairs between the two of them . jmho .tim

Would it be covered under the truck insurance since the rail is on the trailer connected to the truck?

I would claim it. That is why you pay the premiums. I have 10k straps I use. Mostly because we used them to tie down a 4500# land speed car. Would rather have more coverage then just barely enough.

What's your deductible? If it's $1k you might be better off just paying out of pocket vs. the hit on your insurance rates.

True dat. I swerved to avoid a coyote on an offramp a few months back... $5k in damage. Plus my insurance said that since I
missed the friggin' dog, I couldn't prove it was a "road hazard"... so I took the hit on fault. Lesson learned = next time, sorry Fido.

Sucks about the damage. Maybe a good time to add provisioning for bypasses in the front? Look forward to seeing the new wing when all done. 2.5 subie will make that car come alive!! Glad it's been a good car. Hated to see it go... Post a thread with the updates. My "new" car is great. Absolutely love it.

I'm of the mindset that I pay for insurance in case shit happens and it looks like shit happened. Put in the claim, they rob us every month so you may as well use it. That is what it's for.

Here are a few questions you have to ask yourself. What is the estimated cost to fix both the truck and buggy, vs what is your deductible. Example if your deductable is $500 and the total damage is $800 to $1000, you might consider fixing it yourself and keeping the insurance out.
Now the next question is how is your driving record and have you made any claims with your insurance carrier in the past year or two? Only claims that were listed as your fault would be a major concern. If your insurance paid out because of someone else's fault then it should not effect your insurance record.
I had never made a claim against my insurance. 2 years ago I ran out of talent backing the motorhome up in the dark and the back passenger corner of my motorhome caught the hitch part of my trailer and tore up a lower storage compartment door. And to top it off I tweaked the trailer. Lesson learned not to back up in the dark between the house, trailer and retaining wall without help. Also this lesson cost just over $8000 to repair. But because I have not made any previous claims and because my driving record is clean I did not get any increases in my insurance. Also helps that the only property damage was my own property.

Good point about the dog and it brings up something rather interesting that happened to me. My lab a few years ago got out and headed straight for the road. He was hit and killed and it caused damage to the Ford Ranger pickup truck. Turns out it was my home owners insurance that was responsible for repairing the dude's truck.
So yeah next time run over Fido and have his owner's home owners insurance pay for damages.

Just for the record, If my dogs ever get out and someone hits them I better see skid marks or they wont make it to the insurance claim part. Just saying.

It's too bad this all happened, looks like it will all get worked out.
read all the posts and although it seems obvious no one has said it.
Always use 2 straps with 2 different anchor points on both ends. Higher front rail could help too but redundant straps are always a good thing.
Good news is there is plenty of time to get it all up and running before the season starts.
Good dunning to ya and post some pics of the new stuff.

I had a 30K+ claim on a sandrail and my rates never went up. I have heard people call and ask about coverages and had their rates raised just for asking! Makes no sense.
If you dont have any other claims recently I would claim this.
