OK I have been looking at trailer for awhile now and people are asking totally off the wall prices. I see put in base book then add everything they have in the trailer. Well that isn't the right way. Most trailers are base book the only adds you do have for custom ordered slides, satellite dishes, solar. You can't add the refrig, water heater A/c unit unless there are two and only one came with it. I will use a example from a post since I just cut and paste and didnt want to type.
Base Price
$14,530 $17,500
Options
AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING
15,000 BTU (Non-Central/Non-Ducted) $430 $520 Included in base price
15,000 BTU Central/Ducted $470 $570
Furnace (13,000-17,000 BTU) $85 $105 Included in base price
APPLIANCES
5 - 7.0 cu. ft. $375 $455 Included in base price
Gas Grill Cook Top $555 $670 Included in base price
Microwave/Hood Combo $245 $300 Included in base price
Water Heater 6 Gallon Gas/Elec. w/DSI $160 $195 Included in base price
ENTERTAINMENT
AM/FM/CD Stereo $155 $190 Included in base price
GENERATORS
5 KW Gas $1,335 $1,610 OK gens are different. Most all toyhauler included them. ever see one without? depends on the manufacture, it is a add on all other trailers.
JACKS AND LEVELING SYSTEMS
Front Power Leveling Jacks $120 $150 Included in base price
Stabilizer Jacks (Crank Down) $115 $140 Included in base price
MISCELLANEOUS OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
Auxiliary Battery (Each) $40 $50
Awning 20' - 22' (Each) $470 $570 Included in base price never seen a trailer without one myself. Not a add on the invoice sheet
Ceiling Fan $65 $80
Fiberglass Exterior 31' and Over $1,170 $1,410 Included in base price
Fuel Station $405 $490 Included in base price
LPG Gas/Smoke Detector $55 $70 Included in base price
Outside Shower $60 $75 Included in base price
Power Slide-Out Room (Bedroom) (Each) $780 $940 Included in base price
Skylight $120 $145 Included in base price
Spare Tire and Carrier $75 $95
TOTAL PRICE $21,815 $26,330
Think about it. If it wasn't a option add on the purchase order then it comes with the trailer it is accounted for in the base price. Also people in these times there is no way a bank or someone for that matter is going to pay full retail unless the trailer is in like new condition. I just used this model trailer as a example and not slamming anyones sale or asking price. If I were to price something for sale it would be within the base book price range in this market. I see all these guys on craigslist doing the same thing.

I agree on boats many bought and are upside down but think a boat holds value like a car.I have owned boats for years and have only owned 2.

The adds in the Nada Book are all allowed and normal adds. Funny thing about Nada book values is that its a depreciated schedule of prices from MSRP not actual sales data from real world sales. The Kelley blue Book on cars is updated off real world sales at the wholesale level. Most motorhome dealers end up paying over the Nada wholesale book values when buying. Nada is merely a guide and it is not reflective of the markets actual values. Boats are a whole different story and a lot of the boat dealers are paying way over the wholesale Nada figures to get them bought, If they just payed by what the Nada guide said it was valued at they would own nothing.

We all know it is what the market is not what is in the trailer. I feel the upgrades just make it a easier sell.

I am looking to buy a dual sport bike - seems like folks want way over NADA. Weird. Prices are all over the place. Guess thats why they don't sell them?

What makes NADA the authority? Market dictates the price.

I get that - I deal in market values all day long. But, it seems there is a greater discrepancy in ask vs book vs sell. Just my observation.

Another thing to add, NADAGUIDE values online are low and high RETAIL. Big difference from the actual wholesale book that comes out every 3 months. In the RV business we used to used both KBB and NADA. For the most part we use NADA because thats what the banks want when deciding how much they will loan on a particular unit. Ther are 1000's and 1000's of RV's, boats and toys out there for sale. I believe , however that most people asking a ton over true market value are trying to get payoff. Which is very rare to happen.
Example = On a used Weekend Warrior, lets say a 2008 model year. The banks will only finance 80% of base book + adds (wholesale only). As Squatcher said Real adds, not the online version of NADAGUIDES.com that allow you to add everything including the kitchen sink.

The banks are adding all adds right off NADA online. The wholesale Nada is only a few % less than the low retail its not that far of a spread. I look at them all day long. Some adds can be redundant but they are legit add ons . NADA is merely a guide. Not actual sales figures.. just a guide. Remember NADA is depreciating stuff from the original msrp. it is not ACTUAL PRICING. The market sets the prices.
Most people owe more than they are selling for and if they can come out of pocket for the difference they cant sell.
If you try and by stuff strickly off NADA Base you wont have much luck. But once in a while you might find a deal.

Shawn and I both work/owned RV dealerships. Most dealers are not paying over low book often. Maybe to make a trade-in deal. Last year used was tight and things did get alittle crazy on the wholesale side but what the bank with finance is what most trailers are worth retail. Not many cash buyers out there unless they are from Canada. two year ago we filled our lot with auction finds that were 60% of low book not the online bull but true low book. That way we could sell at low book and move product. Yes Nada drops price $500 every 3 months. Just to mention again adding in a frig or hot water heater is NOT a Legit add.

I think I read all the posts on here correctly.
When I was looking to buy a toy hauler, I ran into the same thing from alot of different people. I would cut and paste what they said the "guide" said their trailer was worth. Which I would say that I didn't think they added things up correctly, I mean, that they added things that shouldn't have been added, as stated above.
If you look a little closer, in the "guide", it'll show you that this*, and that*, and the other* is included in the base price, don't add these as options. Everything else can be added, as long as they are options, ie, TV's, power jacks, auto level, 2 A/C's, upgraded water heater, upgraded fridge, etc. Is that what eeverybody else sees?
If that's the case I got a smokin deal on my TH!
