So I got my m1 license a while back planning on test riding bikes before I actually commit on buying on. My heart lies in the supermoto category, but the jack-factor on a bike that light kinda freaks me out.

Wife is raised by a die hard harley biker. Her family basically bleeds black and orange, and my pocket book cant take that hit.

I think R6's look the best and suit me most for sport bikes, and I have her pretty well convinced on the same, as long as its black.

So heres the question:

2007 and newer R6, or a 1200 sporty?

About the same price range used, plenty to choose from, and each have their up's and down's.

I still have time to choose, as I still need to same a little more cash, but for a first bike for the street, and a max of 5g's, what would slaparmy do?

I have a 2005 Suzuki SV1000S full faring kit, Two Bros carbon fiber race pipes. All black. NEVER NEVER NEVER dropped, laid down, or hit. $5000 firm.

I bought it new and maintain it like I'll have it forever. I love this bike but I want another one and don't have the room to keep it.

Since you're here on NASNI, I have "bubbas" that can vouche for this bike and the way I maintain my stuff if you need references.

The only way to make this decision is to sit on both bikes and see what fits you the best and what is the most comfortable.

The newer R6's are definitely not the most comfortable bikes, but then again what sportbike is based on comfort.

The R6 is more like a trackbike than a daily rider. It likes to be in the upper RPM's.

If that works for you than go for it. My first bike and daily rider was a gsxr. I loved it, but there definitely a pain in the a$$ sometimes.

If I was looking at HD I would shy away from the sporty just because they fit smaller and really don't have the go when you need it, without a bunch of work.

It's a sportsbike with all the torque and sound of a V-twin...best of both worlds...icon_biggrin.gif

Kick ass bike fo sho, but i've still got a little ways to go before I buy. Wouldn't the insurance be kinda steep on a 1000?

Well...it's for sale and first $5000 takes it. Of course I don't have it advertised anywhere.

The SV is classified as a "Sports touring" bike. A bit cheaper than a "sportsbike" of any size. This by no means means it's slow...icon_biggrin.gif

The R6 is just about the worst first bike you can get. Most beginner riders think that a 600 is a beginner bike but in fact, it is far from it. The powerband is peaky, not making much power till 6 grand so you slip the clutch alot on take off. Once you get in the fat of the powerband though, hold on because all 105 hoursepower will zing you to 15K RPM in a heartbeat. The ergos are uncomfortable, tires are expensive and will last 6K miles if you're lucky and spring for top shelf rubber. Ins. is hella expensive. Go get a quote. I dare you. The R6 is a track bike, plain and simple. A buddy bought a honda CBR600 and while he commutes on it, he admits it's a horrible commuter.

The sporty is a good first bike as long as you don't mind the "girls bike" comments. They are slow and heavy. They don't stop as well as they could and I think they look kinda funny. They are very reliable though and parts are reasily available. Some models have small gas tanks. Something to consider if you'll be going on trips.

There are plenty of other bikes that are much better to learn on than either. I won't make any suggestions though unless you want em.
