Because of all the horrible crap happening along our boarders and in AZ right now we have had a couple big sponsors for our annual Dunetober event pull out this year.
The sponsors wont set up at buttercup being that it is so close to the boarder. Any thoughts on this ? I personally don't have any problem with keeping the event there.
I will forward this thread to the sponsors. If I can remove some of there fears I may be able to get them back for the event.
Thanks for the help guys. Also we have this event one week before the Glamis opener in Oct.

I have been camping at Ogilby, the north side of I8 for years and have never had a problem with Illegals.

Rangers were pretty harsh last year.

But I dont see it being a saftey issue with illegals.

Tom,

Just saw this. Who is pulling out, may I ask? Since Buttercup is so close to Hwy 8, I can't see any problems, along with the fact the ranger station is within shouting distance. The border patrol, and rangers, IMO are way more visable there at Buttercup, than say Glamis, itself. Also with the fence that is set up at the border there in Buttercup, who can get through that? I don't think an M1A1 Abrams tank could,LOL! I just don't see Buttercup being a potential problem, but this is only my opinion. I hope this doesn't ruin the event.

Notify rangers if holding an event.

Plenty of other dunes to hold events, why not move away from the border.. further north?

How ya doing Scott. Well, we will lose our biggest sponsor HPI to start and some other manufactures. The CEO read about some trouble there, I guess there was a Ranger involved shooting not to long ago. I'm just hoping for a little dunning education for these guys from the guys that are in the dunning community.
I totally agree with you guys. Its like setting up camp in a police parking lot. Ranger station just down the road, hell you see rangers all day long in that loop. Last year the rangers even were dragging the fence chain around to help us with the drag races. Once again other eyes will watch this thread. The more positive replies the better.
If we cant bring them back we might move into the washes or at the end of Gecko. Fingers crossed.

I hope the sponsors don't read about accidents on roadways or they'd never leave their homes. This may be just an excuse in a down economy.

Now I certainly may be mistaken - but I live in Yuma so anything that happens in Buttercup gets on our local news. Point being that I don't recall any agents (or anyone for that matter) being shot at this year or last due to illegals or hooligans of any kind in Buttercup. I remember something from 2 years ago but I think that was before the fence, all is quiet on the southern front of buttercup for now. The border patrol is VERY visible around buttercup and along the fence road besides the ranger station right there.

I think it is safer than Glamis now............ sraptor.gif

see if they would consider moving it to vendors @ Gordons or Glamis...

Ok realy now. You are more likley to have your ride stolen or get into a fight with a flat biller or fellow "dunner" than an illigal. They are trying to get across the border with out being noticed and causing a problem just draws attention. They are trying to get away from the boarder not looking to hang arround t see whats happening in the HPI tent or whats that lawn mower sound should we go look, no.
Make it to a town for work and a better future. Criminals are just that and they are every where the dunes are the where the numbers ar in your favor. You have to have the intrest to be there, a ride to get there, bring your own place to stay and things to keep you busy all of which are not cheep. the illigals trying to cross have none of this they just want to et the f-out the desert.
Let the sponsers know that to play this is where alot of us go and spend time, money and enjoy ourselfs. I had never seen a B5 running like they are ment to, just sitting on a shelf, that is untill I saw one airing out off the top of a dune. Now I want one! and as soon as my rail is compleet it is going to get its own minnie me.

ok rant over.
