Full Version: Today Was The Final Day For Ricky

When I got my first house 13 years ago I got me a Black Lab Puppy to watch the back yard for me and protect the pad. He was 100lbs in his hay days and had a gnarly bark for strangers but was the biggest softy to our kids as they grew up.

He barked one night at 2:00pm in the morning and wouldnt shut up, after finally getting up I discovered he was barking at 2- people trying to steal my wifes suburban. I was able to chase them off before they got anything.

He barked again one day and when I looked out the window there was a burglar crawling in the neighbors window, cops came and got him.

He barked again one night and sure enough there was somebody trying to mess with my truck.

He began having issues with the fourth of july 5 years ago, which was understandable, then 3 years ago freaked out at thunderstorms to the point we had put him in the garage all night with the stereo blarring.

We found out a couple of months ago he has mouth cancer but it wasnt really effecting his behavior but we started mentally preparing that this was the last summer. This last winter he freaked so bad at thunder he chewed threw ours kids bedroom window, yes chewed, about cut his tongue off. Now this 4th of july he snapped, took out another window, sliding glass door and has gotten worse everyday since the 4th, He was freaking at night and now yesterday he was always freaked out (Panting, pacing, barking, getting aggresive). Finally today my wife called and he was trying to claw thru the fence to get out where the neighbor kids were playing and we were afraid of what he would do if he got out to the kids.

We had to load him up and go the the vet and put him down. Ricky left us on the fourth of July just before the fire works went off, what was left was just his body and an empty brain.

Rainbow Bridge Poem
There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth. It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours.

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies , the pet goes to this special place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather.

The old and frail are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again.

They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing.

They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.

So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up !

The nose twitches !

The ears are up !

The eyes are staring !

And this one suddenly runs from the group !

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her into your arms and embrace.

Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated

I'm so sorry for your loss icon_sad.gif you had many good years together and in time that will give you peace. He is at ease now with no pain or aggravations to make him chew and bark.

Labs are the best we had Miss Lacey for almost 16 years before she graduated to the big park in heaven with Zena and Baja and Maggie and now Ricky and FMF they will all play together and wait for us to join them.

God Bless you Ricky may you rest easy now.

So sorry LaDSM for the loss of beautiful Ricky.. he sounds like he was a great dog. I'm sure that you doubt the decision you had to let him go without him suffering. I know that's not easy....

Today was a week since we had to let "Biscuit the beagle" go to the great puppy place above... she battled congestive heart failure for a year. Tough when he was my son's first dog. RIP Ricky and Biscuit
Ocotillo Boy
Todd, I'm sooooo sorry Bro. As you know, having critters is VERY painful but worth it for the joy they bring. I wish there was something I could do for you to take the hurt away. He's in puppy heaven right now chasing Rabbits if thats any consolation..... peace.gif
