I still own a skateboard and have for the past 37 going on 38 years.

My first board was a wood plank with steel wheels...laughing.gif

I moved onto longboards now. Neighbors still stare every time I ride by with the dog!

Skateboarding is not a crime.

It was tuff being a skater in the mid-west back then.

I remember getting my first board that had sealed bearings... With the old steel and clay wheels if you even saw a rock you were going down

I grew up in Minnesota. Ahhh...the days of going downtown and skating through the parking garages and down the ramps...Fat rent-a-cops screaming at you and chasing you...if life could have remained so simple...laughing.gif

I grew up in So Cal and people were not to supportive of Skaters either.... I remember the Old LaMesa Skate Park... I also remember pulling dirt out of some of the bowls after they closed it down.... I never went to the one under the freeway off I-8 though.

Anybody remember the skatepark on east main in El Cajon??
South Bay
With all of the newly constructed municipal skate parks over the last 10 years, it would be awesome to have an original restored so local kids could see what it was like "back in the day" I'll take the Upper Keyhole at Marina del Rey

Fawk yeah!

After a few years around 84-85-86 we would hold street scums. All the skaters would show up at one spot (50+ people) and we would take over. Shutting down streets, skating through malls and anything else that got in our way.

Between skating and BMX, ARGGHHHHHHHH.

I have finally succumbed to the attraction. I am leaving the midwest for socal.

I even remeber seeing picture of the Hurricane riding in sand going OMG where is that? OMFG I want to ride there. I have some serious riding to make up. Between famous skate spots and OHV areas. My life is about to take a long awaited turn for the better.

Im 47 now, Born and raised in san diego. Raced BMX at Rancho San Diego and raced tracks all over El Cajon. Moved to North County San Diego near a pool called the Kona Bowl, was one of the founding members of the Kona Boys, Del Mar skate ranch came out and took measurements and recreated the konaBowl at the skate Ranch. member of Team UFO with jimmy Segurson and Gunner Haugo and went to High School with Mark Anthony Ragowski " Gator " My dad drove us everywhere in san diego, charcoal bowl in LaJolla, VC bowl, Hester pool, Downhillin in LaCosta, Sparks skate park in Carlsbad, Whirlin Wheels in Escondido. Years later around 1988 that skater friend of mine Gator murdered some poor girl in Pacific beach, stuck her body in a surf board bag and buried her in a shallow grave in Ocatillo wells and got caught. Got the call from my dad asking if that was the kid we drove around and said yes, nice friend son, yes dad. He still gives me shit for that.

<<<<<<Upland Skate Park was my home from 84'-89'
I skated the Vans park in Orange maybe 10 years ago. Had a nice big ramp that was maybe 40'w. I was in my late 20's then and was the "old" guy on the ramp!
lmao.gif

I miss that stuff.

Upland, Paramount, South Bay, and a bunch of others I cant remember. I rode em all.

Back then we drained pools for fun. The highlight of my skating days had to be skating a pool we drained with Doug Schneider. A local Pro.

Still have my board with original trackers and Alva wheels.

Good times for sure.
Glamisbound
I grew up in Costa Mesa back in the 70's. Rad Ramp was right down the street from my house. We'd skate down there and watch the "pro's" do endless 360's, hang 10, arm stands, and all the other hard core tricks of the day....LMAO

I was banned from skating by my parents in around '86 but couldnt resist any longer and in about '91 secretly purchased a board. After about 2 months the cat was out of the bag and my parents (my mom started the whole thing) left me alone. Was good at street but never had a ramp to ride and parks were pretty much non-existent at that time as far as I knew (IE area). Through in the towel around '95 due to an injury but I still miss it today. Getting back into bikes now, of the mountain variety though.

Have always loved skating, never really got as good at it as some of my buddies, I can at least say I skated Del Mar in about '85. I have a lot of friends that are still in the industry, my close buddy works for CA rampworks/skateparks and makes all the ramps and parks for the x games as well as most of the skateparks around the nation. My other buddy from high school opened up indoor skate school that both of my kids have been attending since 3 years old. My seven year old is now starting to get pretty good. So at 41 I now find myself skating again at the parks with the kids. Phx has so many killer skateparks around the city it is amazing here is my oldest at his skateschool.

Got nothing on you guy's.. What's a kid to do in Michigan, with snow six months a year, dirt streets, in the 60's? Take a plank, some nails and transform those stupid steel roller skates that slide over your chuck taylors, and nail'em to the board. Then coast down the neighbors driveway.. So I played ice hockey instead!

Are you still skating (hockey)?

Being in Chicago I received a yellow Hobie fiberglass for XMAS. I was so in love with this skate my mom bought it two months before xmas to shut me up. She would let me ride it in the basement before xmas hit. On xmas day I rode that deck right down the street in the dry sections and snow. My Mom was great about skating and BMX. She didn't like hockey very much. Too much fighting for her. I still play puck religiously.

Damn! Holy shi t here it is. The Hobie Hustler. Damn, I would like to buy it but for $850?????

I read on the Turf Fb page that Tony Hawk wrote a few letters to the Mayor and the City Council.

That is effin kick ass!

I remember watching Tony skate for the first time in 86 maybe in Elgin, IL. I still have the Thrasher Mag with him on the cover and his sig. smile.gif

There are a ton of scum bags in pro sports. Tony has to be one of the classiest Professionals from any sport.
