So I have line on a 86ish Yamaha 80 quad. The only problem is it has tranny issues. How hard are the trannies to work on? Do they require a bunch of special tools? Anything to look out for?

You will have to do a complete engine and trans rebuild. I think I paid about $700.00 10 years ago to have one done. A fat a$$ friend of mine sat on it and reved it up and slammed it in gear, his only coment "Sorry". He and his family were never invited to go with me again.
