Since 05 I have had my motor out probably 4 times for trannies, clutches, and 1 broken motor the first year. Never thought much of it and it has never been a problem but it is 440 lbs hanging on just the 4 studs. Anyone ever had a problem doing this. I have left it for days hanging there. (Mendi 2D)

No issues hanging mine 383 iron block chevy.

No worries. Thousands of VW-powered rails have the engine mounted to the trans with no other engine mounts. Sure, a VW engine is only 200+ lbs but when the rail bottoms out that equates to more than double the weight of the engine. Depending on how hard the rail bottoms out it could be three times the weight of the engine or more.

KG bottomed out so hard once that the entire rear cage sheared (damn single shear grade 8 bolts ph34r.gif )the bolts and came off. Engine was fine...

I know of at least one Subaru car (not mine) running around with out motor mounts, on a 4e. It'll be fine for a couple of days.
When fabing mounts jack it up a little to take some stress out of the bellhousing.
