I'm fairly new to this micro stub thing. Just picked up a spare set of stubs that I THOUGHT were what I had. Please take a look at the pics and help me out. I'm certain that the hubs are Gear One........but that's about all I know at this point.
Thanks,
Randy

From the pics it looks like a standard VW stub probably a VW long spline with bolt on bearing carrier. Not a micro stub setup

that is a VW, they will work ok, but the bearing do not like a lot of shock load, a high end bearing will help and a chromoly gland nut, make sure they are always tight, the best class on stub shafts are looking at them on the Kartek web page. A micro stub is a drive bearing off a american car or truck with the half shaft removed and replaced with a micro stub.

Thanks so far. I'll attach a pic of the Gear One setup. The stubs I just bought are the exact ones in the kit. In looking at the rest of my hubs, I have everything else shown in the kit, I just have a bearing spacer that is needed for the VW stubs. So, assuming the "drive hub" splines are the same, I could ensure I have the same bearings in the kit........remove the bearing spacer..........and I could use the micro stubs? It seems like this would require longer axles, but it would be a much stronger setup. Am I off base here?

Get a longer bolt for your rear shocks...

Micro stubs and Gear One Monster stubs are probably about the same strength. Micro stub gets an advantage because the CV flange is closer to the trailer arm, thus allowing longer axles. You can switch to micro stubs, but you'll need longer axles and they will come with new bearing carriers as well.

We had a sand limo that had the gear one stubs and broke a bearing on 3 different trips over a period of 2 years, to change to the Micro stubs is pretty easy, most micro stubs will come with a 3 hole mounting plate, this plate holds the 3 bolt bearing and the brake. cut out the side of the arm and weld on the new plate and it is done.
on the vw style all the weight rides on the stub. On a micro stub, the stub is floating there like a 4x4, all the weight rides on the drive 5 bolt drive flange.
a micro stub set is much stronger.
