My buddy is going to buy a new quad. I was wondering if I could get some input on the 400ex and the 300ex and whitch one is the better of the two. Thanks

If he's old enough to ride a 400ex just get the Z400. He won't outgrow it for a long time. Honda ex's are great reliable machines, but they're yesterdays news. A used 400ex can be had for cheap thanks to Suzuki driving Honda ex prices into the ground...

Whatever you do, I wouldn't consider the 300EX. It actually weighs MORE than the 400EX (although the 300 does have a reverse gear).

My buddy is 41. The 400 don't have a reverse? What about the new models that Honda has out if any????
I have the 250 fourtrax for my son. It is a 1987 and has been a good bike. Thanks for any input.

the ex is a good bike, but it lacks power. plus the zukis and kawis are better price wise, more bang for the buck i think. but i want to ride that new polaris predator 500, checked it out at the SSSS, i liked it.

Honda put out the 250EX after the 400; not sure if it has a reverse, but it's more of a Blaster-level quad. Other than that, Honda hasn't said anything about a new sport quad. But I'm sure they can hook you up with a Formean if you want to drag bails of hay around the dunes.

Thanks for the replies. I don't plan on doing any hay at Glamis though. I'll stick to my sand rail. My buddy will probly get the 400ex. Just wanted to get the insite if anyone on here had one. Thanks again.

The 300 ex has been plagued with poor and missed frame welds, transmission failure, leaky gas tanks, and rusting in critical spots.
It's performance is close to the 250EX.
The 400 EX lacks a reverse, has had 5 major problem/failure points, and looses resale value pretty quick.
Honda is a household name and people buy on the strength of that. So Honda is slow to bring new off road products to market.
I'm not knockin' Honda, I just bought my son a 250ex,, but it seems like my 400ex owner friends are always makeing excuses and calling other brands bad names. Sour Grapes, awww I shouldda bought that instead kinda storys.
