Okay I'm in Pensacola for work and just watched CNN at 2:30AM and had to jump online. There was a tickertate that said 420 acres in California just designated to preserve the Person MilkVetch Plant. What the heck? I thought we were on top of this with regards to demonstrating that we infact improved the plants reproductive potential and demographics. I know 420 is smaller than the current closure but does anyone know the new closed areas?

There are no new closed areas, at least not that anyone in the OHV leadership is aware of.

"Critical Habitat" has been proposed, in accordance with procedures and regulations and of course a lawsuit. I have a link I can post somewhere... I'll try to locate it.

What about the petition to delist the PMV?

There are three ways that Fish & Wildlife can go...

1. The action is not warranted, which would mean the PMV stays on the list of threatened and endangered species; or

2. The action is warranted and a delisting proposal appears in the federal register, involving a public comment period and Fish & Wildlife has a lot of work to do; or

3. The action is warranted but Fish & Wildlife doesn't have sufficient resources to act on the matter.

Whichever way the worm turns, a notice will appear in the Federal Register. The court deadline for a Fish & Wildlife decision is May 31st but don't expect anything to appear right on the dot. Federal Register notices are cranked out regularly and they appear in no particular order of importance... more like order of appearance. In other words, the PMV federal register notice will have to wait its turn for publication and there is no way of knowing when that will be.
