Last trip my banshee died. Literally. Im guessing its either the top end or one of the connecting rods. Ive never rebuilt a shee motor and i dont really plan to. So what im wondering is what would be a ballpark figure of how much $$$ would be involed in buying parts. I think i might be able to get a friend to help me out on the rebuild to help save some cash. I'm hoping to sell this beast by next season and save enough to snag a crf 450. Thanks alot.
TANK
like 125 for pistons, 40 a cylinder for a bore, plus whatever labor is if you take it somewhere. connection rods.......if one is broken you will most likely end up getting a new crank and thats 450 bucks. pull off the spark plugs and kick the engine over to see if you have compression in either cylinder. but if the kick starter just wont go down.....you have a long journey so pack a lunch dude. good luck and ride safe

p.s.banshee engines are WAY easy to work on if its just the top end. but as a whole that bike is simple enough almost anyone can work on it with a shop manual. i LOVE my banshee for that.
SHOCKER
Yeah 2-strokes are easy, can you still kick it over? and did ya hear anything?
SUPERFLY
ya i was feeling for compression the other day in one cylinder and didnt feel anything, so i stuck a pencil down in there to see if the piston was moving which it was. then the engine just locked up so i was like, "Effin yamaha." and so i was like about to put it in the trader just like that. bandit.gif

ahhhaaa! A banshee owner in distress...lets see here.....uhm... "sounds like your quazo-spring-tension roller bearing thrust washer crank bushing lower end cranks plank is bad!!!!!!! Uh, thats serious stuff friend. Sheeesh...uh, have you ever rebuilt a jaguar before? No you say??? Well then I would not recommend attempting this repair...Because when you split the crank all the preloaded spring guide pin lamptee recectivitors are connencted to the ignition stator. I saw a guy have one fly out and embed it in his car fender....yep..I sure did...so, I tell you what....I will give you ten crisp one hundred dollar bills for this trade...cause, ah, you know....its gonna cost me at least 1300 to fix it back up...and thats just parts..... rolleyes.gif

Hey man, I had the same thing happen to my 2000. It had an air-leak that I didn't know about and it fried my motor. Costs on the top-end were 850 bucks.
Including Wiseco pistons (forged aluminum), P-2 bore, doming the heads, and I thnk that is it.
See if e-bay has some new pistins for what size bore u want, (if u want to bore it.)
umm, that's the cheapest. Vito's pistons are heavy, they like to shake the engine real bad. Harder on the engine mounts.

But if your heads, arent thrashed up, your price wont be that high.

I lost my compression, i could push it with my broken wrist. (Which u cannot do on a new top-end at all).

U can do most of the work yourself, by taking the jugs off and taking them to the mechanic, and taking your pistons off, blah blah blah. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper then too. It's real easy and not that hard. Especially if u buy a Banshee book. Since banshee's have been around since '86, and nothing has really changed. They are almost all the same. Not a bad project to do. And in-case u do screw up, there is always somebody (mechanic) that knows how to do it.
Have fun man, and good luck......~Ryan rollsmile.gif

True to that Big Had. Got any question Superfly, post them. We thrive on bike problems. Or just working on them period. Throw up your hands and say "Eff it, I'm askin the duners....lol". Later.........~Ryan

Get a manual (Clymer or other) for it, they go step by step through the rebuild. The best $25 I ever spent.
