This is probably more of a rant then anything. I bought a set of aftermarket shocks for my rhino a couple of years back and were told a lifetime warranty on the shocks. That is one reason i bought them and the fact that the company was local and easy for me to get to if I had problems. Well this weekend I blew the right rear. So monday I caleed them up to see how long it will take for them to repair. They told me a week and it would be 70.00 dollars a shock. When I questioned the lifetime warranty statement I was told that does not include seals. So much for LIFETIME.
So this is my question am I excepting to much???? If you want to know the manufacturer PM me And I will let you know.

The seals wear out...period. Your going to need to rebuild a shock now and then, the more you romp on them the more wear and tear and the more often you'll have to do this. Fox (assuming thats what you have) shocks are very easy to rebuild yourself...just buy the rebuild kit for like $15 per shock and some oil and do it to it. Good luck

warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on anymore. It is such a hassle to get anything done with one, it is ridiculous.

post up the company for all to see! what are they going to do, not honor it if they saw it?

I can promise you, if you would have said XXX took care of me with my warranty, no questions asked, I'd be shopping with that company, but when issues like this, and something pretty petty at that comes to light, I question their products and word.

I dont know what warranty Walker Evans advertises but they replaced two seals in a two year period free of charge and changed the oil and serviced them for free.

I would say, read the warranty first and see what it covers.

Normaly warranties only cover hard parts, not parts that wear. Take a new car warranty, it does not cover tires, brakes, light bulbs, etc.... I can understand why a shock company would only waranty hard parts or parts that are defective, but warn parts???? Yes you are asking too much in my eyes....

Seals are wear items, like brake pads and belts......wear items are normally not included in any warranty in the automotive industry. I would say you are expecting too much, as well. However, as mentioned, there ARE companies like Walker Evans (which I happen to run religiously!) who will go above AND beyond - and it should be recognized as such, to make their customers happy. This is not the norm.....

What shock warranties usually entail are shaft breakage/bending, spring issues, material defects/failures, etc.......

Thanks for the replies, I never thought about it being a wear and tear type item. But i can defintly understand that. I just think 70.00 dollars each is a little steep as well to rebuild them? And for the company it is Hydro dynamics (I shocks). I dont want to blast them as they have been good to me in the past when it came to spring replacements etc>>>>

I pay that much for a 2.5 by-pass shock rebuild. I would take it to someone else. beer.gif

What does the warranty say? If it is a no questions warranty, then they need to step up. The warranty was offered to get you to buy those shocks, not because I Shock never expected those shocks to wear out. If the warranty covers only certain items like I would imagine, then you need to accept that a worn seal isn't covered. If you don't have the paperwork that spells out what you are entitled to, you don't have a leg to stand on and are at their mercy.

There are still people warrantying their lifetime guarantee batteries, mufflers, and spark plug wires, even 30 years after they were first purchased. Only a fraction of owners will continue to use their warranties in that manner but the builder shouldn't offer the warranty if he doesn't plan on honoring it.

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted. Why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.

Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted? [chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing]

Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?

Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Read the warranty. Does it cover seals?

I am told I help to many people not buy extended warranties... My problem, I try and be clear about what is and what is not covered! I like to be honest!!!!!

I bought a used set of rear ishocks also. 1 is blown and the rubber bumpers are thrashed. They were on a 2 seater and I need to have them revalved for a 4 seater. Guy I got them from was quoted $65 each to revalve so I assume that would be a rebuild also?

how in the hell do you buy a shock with a life time warranty

There are a number of companys who offer a "Lifetime Warranty" on brake pads. I often wondered how that would work.
LaDSM
place by my house offers that, Buy pads once and bring them back for free exchange as long as they dont go to metal. I buy brakes once a car, thats it, He hopes that you either pay him to put them on or at least turn your rotors.

Brakeworld in Pomona, Ca= THey are OEM grade Wagner pads- Great quality, no squealing, minimum dust.
