Sometimes in storage the gas will evaporate out of the carb and leave sticky 2 stroke oil residue behind gumming things up.

Yes it's a float thing. The float is stuck wide open so it keeps sending fuel into the float bowl and out the overflow tube. Try tapping firmly with a screwdriver handle or lightly with a small hammer. Sometimes this is enough to free up the float. If not, take off the float bowl (Easiest if the carb is off but not necessary I believe). Move the float up and down to see if it binds at all. Check to see if it has filled with gas. While your at it, take out the jets and blow em out (Can't hurt) with compressed air. Usually, its just something gummed up in there and once it's free, the carb works good.

Only if you tip the thing over which isn't very likely.

Sounds to me like your floats aren't adjusted correctly. They probably aren't closing completely by the time it starts overflowing out of the tubes.
So it just keeps going and going and going and going and going...
Sorry, got carried away...

In the future, when you're done rideing for the year or won't be rideing again for a long period of time, you may want to turn off the fuel while the engine is running, then, as it starts to die, hit the choke while giving it the gas to remove fuel out of your carb and fuel system, until the engine quits..
This'll take out both the gas and oil.
I only do this when I expect not to ride for a long time.

OH MY. That sounds very bad for your engine. Running it out of gas. Taking lube off of the crank and stuff. Whenever I stop riding, I turn the fuel off. When I'm done for the weekend, I turn the fuel off. I might sometimes turn the fuel off like 20 yards from camp to get some of the fuel out of the float bowl, but don't run it empty with the throttle wide open.

Have to agree with BamBam on that one, if you want to drain the fuel out of the carb after your done for the weekend, there is this little screw on the bottom of the float bowl that will accomplish the same thing. With alot less wear and tear on the motor.
DuneRaider, are you trying to sieze a motor?

Some carbs have the little screw that drains the carb out through the hose, others (like the Kiehin) have a hex nut. On mine I have to use a 17mm wrench to drain the carb.

Ok I gotta call BS on this guys?
Running it out of gas isnt going to hurt anything.
When it runs out, it stops! There is always Alot of residual oil in the crankcase. I do it? And thats comin From a lifelong Two stroke guy, thats never had a Engine seize up! I would not worry about it. IMHO
Go
here to check the manual for your carb.. It sounds like your floats need adjustment
