Get the family pass when you go and dump at there site when you leave. Did you know you have to buy a permit license to ride any OHV's there?

Whats the Family pass?.. where do you get it?...You said dump there when you leave, where is that?? and where do you get the permit license?

I just assumed you have been there before. Randsburg rd or 20 mule team road is the way in to the riding area. You will see signs that point you to the ranger staging area. It is about 4 or 5 miles from the town.
A little more info.

Cal city has a pay to ride permit for the area.

Also some of the sites say $8.00. It is $10 this year. $50 will get you 4 OHV passes and all the dump and water you need. It is some sort of fee to ride on the dirt roads in the city.

Thanks very much. This will be my first time there.

Were coming from the 14 then through cal city. then up Randsberg mohave rd. do you know where some of the dump sites are in Cal city?

The campground at Red Rock has a dump station. Last time through we paid $5 for a day use fee and dumped.
Not sure if you still can do it.

Hmmm, must have raised it since Labor Day. I paid the same $42 as last year for this year. That gets you 4 vehicle permits, one unlimited dump permit, one unlimited fresh water fill permit and a tag for your tow vehicle.

Pretty good for a years worth of fun if you go up there a lot. If they raised it to $50, (which I heard they might) I can live with that next year.

On Twenty Mule Team Rd. at the junction of Randsburg Rd. - just as you head out of Cal City going east, there is the dump - two holes. 5 miles down the road is Borax Bill's - there's a cop shop there and the fresh water fill.

If the dump has a long line as you head out, just keep going to Mojave. Make a left turn by the McDonald's as you head south on 14 and there is a RV park. $5 to dump, usually never a wait and you can take your sweet time since no one is waiting behind you.

Exactly. If you look at a Google map of the area, probably 90% of the desert in within the city limits (200 square miles!) are laid out with roads, even though nothing was ever done beyond the initial grading. Some of the major boulevards still have the remnants of an asphalt base.

IIRC you have unlimited access to the dump station, and a limit of 150 gallons of water per week. And the passes are good for a year (until June 2011, anyway). IMHO, $50 for a year's camping and riding is a bargain. Plus the permit fees go to EMT services, trail maintenance, etc.
