Maybe came loose? Those nuts have to torque to 270 ft lbs.
they were hand tight when i got the car back and i torked them myself and they were still tight when i took them off tonight. it was the wrong bearing in there though
No, both bearings should be a roller. VW used ball bearings only on very early swing axle transaxles.
And the axle nut torque should be whatever the brake manufacturer states. For stock VW it is 217 ft-lbs. CNC states to torque their kits to 300 ft-lbs.
these particular housings wont work with two rollers in them for some reason, i had a brake problem before when i first bought the car and one trailing arm had two rollers and the other had ball & roller bearings. swapped them all out for the correct bearings and the problem went away.
when they built my new arms they cut up my old 3x3's to get the bearing housings and they installed the passenger side correctly w/ the ball bearing on the inside and the roller on the outside, on the driverside they installed two roller bearings and has brake problems.
i think most people that run stub axle brakes use B.bearing on the inside and the R.bearing on the outside aswell with no problems
