Fight fire with Fire
We all agree that the greens hate use. Then we need to change that image. How do we do that you ask? Ever hear of the term kill em with niceness, or how about if you cant beat em then join em .
Imagine Grant (ASA prez)being interviewed on national TV and the reporters asks him what he personally thinks about the Sierra Club and their actions. Grant replies with I am a Sierra Club member . He continues with, the club has been lead astray by Daniel Paterson and is not following the traditional ways of the Sirra club in witch it was intended . The new chapter will follow the old traditions and bring balance back to the club.
Think this will change things.
We all become members of the Sierra club and dethrone the present regime. We reform the ESA and reopen all the land that has been wrongly taken away and regain our freedom.
This is the United States of America, the land of the free, the Sierra club as we know it must fall in order to regain that freedom.

Troy, the passion is admirable but there are other anti-access organizations that have done far worse damage to public land access than the Sierra Club. They're no angels, but in comparison to some of the more extreme groups, they're downright calm!
And that's by design, by the way. Every time a really radical group is formed it makes the others look more acceptible (at least to the sheep).
As for denouncing the Sierra Club. Even better than one of us doing it is the fact that former leaders of that organization have done that very thing. There was an excellent series of articles discussing that in the Sacramento Bee some time back.
And for the record, inside sources of the Sierra Club say they are trying to extricate themselves from Dano's image and the CBD, due in large part to the CBD's erroneous public statements and extreme stances.
I myself was a Sierra Club member and one time and then I found out how their money is spent and just how little really goes to conservation. I think John Muir had a great vision but it's been defiled by zealots. He would never approve of what it has become.
That said, I do understand what you're trying to say. I have felt for a long time that one of our biggest hurdles is our public image and we need to focus on changing that. A public relations campaign would be great. DUNERS has several avenues we're pursuing over the "slow" off-season that focus on public image. There's always a battle on the horizon.

Well, along the same vein... Everytime a radical orginization does something... well, ... radical, we need to do our best to associate them with the Sierra Club. Hopefully this will have the effect of getting the Sierra Club on our side, defending themselves against these radicals!

That's an excellent idea Brian.
And it's a tactic the bad guys have been using for a long time.
For instance, they never say the Department of Interior refused to list a species... instead they say that the Bush Administration refused to list a species.
Well done VOR.

Thinking out of the box again
Hikers in the dunes
How about some billboards in the surrounding towns promoting hiking in the northern wilderness area. The greens keep saying they need a safe hiking area in the dunes. They already have it. lets promote this in a big way and prove to them nobody wants to hike in the dunes.
