Check this out

A custom YX based 150 electric start engine

Due for release mid Jan, but located in the UK (They do export though)

Priced around the £500 mark

I spoke to them yesterday and they expect upto 18bhp out of them

( they cant go any more as the compression will be too high and the electric starter wont turn them over)

http://www.ooracing.com/150elecstartenginemadass.htm

I've put my name down on one for my ATC70

I want this when can I get a hold of one? How do you get a price from them and what comes in the box? beer.gif
AustenW
Havent a clue

I bet they only deal in quantity so a group buy might be on the cards smile.gif
Joesmoe
That also means we will be able to just buy the parts to convert any current yx motor to electric start also.

Hi Guys

Well here is an update on this engine

5 of the first engines came into OO Racing last week, OO Racing have been working with YX in China for the last 2 years on these, they helped develop the engine for the sachs madass

I ordered the first engine along with a mikuni VM26 carb last week

I asked them to port the head and inlet and do some 3 angle seat work to give it a little more BHP, these engines come with a 7mm cam and uprated springs as standard

The compression cannot be increased else the electric starter wont turn them over.

At first they managed to get 16.9bhp out of it on the dyno but realised there were a few issues that needed to be addressed

The ignition timing was 10 degrees out on static which was altered by making an adjustable pick up sensor

The engine was then run up on the dyno again and made virtually no increase in power

They then looked at the cam timing and adusted it slightly along with adding a larger main jet to the carb as it was running a little lean on cruze

The end result is 18.6bhp and 10ft/lb

This is on a new motor that is still tight so I'd expect the numbers to go a little higher once its freed up a bit

I'm very happy with the results so looking forward to installing it in my ATC70 this week

make sure and post up pics man,

Can you p/m what you paid for it shipped to you? Where are you located? beer.gif
AustenW
I'm based in the UK so shipping was low

I bought a few extras for my pitbike at the same time so the price was alot more

Base engines are £500

My engine was £650 with the ported head work and 3 angle valve seats

What is that price in US dollars?
AustenW
£1 = $1.61

£500 = $805
Mardy
My guess is it would be almost 1K landed. Thats alot of cabbage when you think about it.....
I did say before it was a fair price, and I still think it is, but, you could get a yx160 and put a pullstart and decompression kit on it for a lot less.........but then again, electric start would be sooooo nice.
AustenW
Here's a brief update

I've got the engine offered up but its a bit tight

Will need to grind either the frame or engine for clearance round the mounting tabs

Also had to cut and reweld the alloy inlet to mount the carb facing inline

POULE43
I may get this motor for the A +

Emailed them and here is what they said.

15 bhp motor £499.99

19.6 bhp motor £699.99

Shipping per engine kit 30kg £79.99

We can also make the correct ignition looms for the D/C CDI.

I emailed them about the looms. What do you guys think? Is the 19.6 bhp just overkill. isn't a stock 450 close to that. $850 landed 15hp to the us isn't that bad at all. $1150 for the extra ponies. sure be a sick 70 that is in.

Austin how the heck is that engine? how is the power. looks sick.
AustenW
Update time

I've adapted an ATC185 front drum hub to fit my narrower ATC70 front forks

I had to machine it down and weld on the central hub to a different offset to fit

Then I shotblasted it and powder coated it up

I also completed the exhaust system, I bought in some 32mm od stainless diary bends and cut and shut the exhaust system I bought to make it fit correctly

Once i'd smoothed and polished the welds it looks like one continious piece of tube

I also fitted a new front wheel and tyre, just need to get round to fitting the new rear wheels and tyres to suit

Going for some satin black 8x8 rims with 3/5 offset on the back for the 18x9.5x8 tyres

Using atc200x hubs which are 4/110 spacing

top notch as always man!

All I have to say is it is the best engine I have ever ridden in a 70. the trans is so smooth and has plenty of power. I have to fit the oil cooler in a few weeks and get busy changing the color and wheels. It flat out smokes a 125. Going up one more tooth in the rear sprocket and i think the gearing will be dialed in. Olds here I come.

austen this is chrisg from qhrq.com

what do you do for a living? you've always got some crazy project going, are you a machinist? you've got some mad fab skills!! I love seeing your projects.

Thanks for your kind comments

I work for an engineering company as their export manager so I'm based in an office all day icon_sad.gif

When I've any free time I spend it in my workshop at home

Been interested in bikes / karts etc since the age of about 5 so started to do all the work myself from and early age

As I get older I'm getting more particular about the finishing off detail icon_sad.gif

I'm 35 now
AustenW
Ive been looking into the TBolt V2 head which will bolt straight onto this engine

It will also take the 192cc conversion as well

I've been told that if I use the Takegawa decomp cam it will enable the starter to turn it over with ease
