Due to popular request we're brining back the Final Friday Duner Dinner BBQ at Buttercup.

June 25th around 7PM meet at the Buttercup cul-de-sac, we'll probably be somewhere on the southern edge. Look for the red Manx, Yellow Jeep, and...aww heck it's summer just look for the biggest group out there icon_wink.gif I'll probably bring the big inflatable goldfish to mark camp just in case anway icon_biggrin.gif

Get a summer sand fix in the cool evening dunes, enjoy some good grub and meet some new people. As usual this is an "informal potluck" which means bring your own food and a little extra to share, grills (and chefs if requested) will be provided if you need to cook anything.

If I can I want to show up a few hours early and give the Manx a little workout...and get some photos. Summer dunes at sunset are like a big fat honking slice of heaven for photographers icon_biggrin.gif

SHOCKER
i wonder how hot its gonna be outthere? i cant make it do to my dads buggy is under the saw and welder, but its been what in the 80's here it will probably be in the high 90's out in the dunes, thats not bad, we went to buttercup last time and it was in may and it was in the high 90's it wasnt to bad, have fun and rip some buttercups bowls for me icon_smile.gif
jhitesma
It's actually been cooler here in Yuma this week than it has been in PHX, Tucson, and even up in Havasu and parker!

We've been in the upper 90's all week and upper 70's low 80's at night.

You can see the output from the weather station at Buttercup here:
http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/plotRea...UT&end_date=now

If you click on one of the graphs you can see the past week or so of data.

says 107-109 this weekend. can we say under the bridge??? lol. It's worth it though. Trying to get my mom to lend me the motorhome. Dont think it is going to happen. We're gonna have to tent-it. That sux but hey, it's the dunes man. As long as I got an air matress, I don't care. But there's 2 more days of convincing to do. unsure.gif

Later......~Ryan

Listened to the NWS report last night, they're saying highs in the upper 90's to lower 100's this weekend with the nights in the upper 60's to lower 70's. Sounds great.

Then again I plan on hightailing it back to my house and hiding in the A/C during the day icon_biggrin.gif

If people are interested I could lead an expidition to a little spot on the river here in Town with some trails and open sand for riding along with the nice cool colorado in a spot that's just deep enough to run ski's but shallow enough you can still walk across to CA if you wanted to....Might be a fun change of pace durring the day staurday. No getting an RV back there though - the entrance is pretty much 4WD only.

Wow, we had almost 20 people show up. Unfortunatly everyone left earlier than I had hoped and mccarty7 was just showing up as we were all packing up icon_sad.gif I had wanted to stay much later but my GF got a lead on the car she's selling and had to get back to take care of some stuff icon_sad.gif

Check out all these guys who showed up on a 100 degree plus day to get some summer dunes:

The dunes BTW were great, just wish he had had time to do more riding. We only got one decent ride in before dark and then one short one after dark. There were some NASTY razorbacks and the top of Buttercup comp was apparently a SUPER nasty razorback with a sheer drop if you went all the way up. But the sand was smooth and the whoops were not bad at all.

We were also treated to one heck of an amazing dune sunset:

Glenn (lobuck) did have a minor accident where a heater line burst in his jeep and his son Andrew burned his leg as a result. I just hope the burn ointment I had helped and didn't make things worse...it was kind of scary looking coming out of the packet blink.gif

The food? Oh wow was there a lot of food. In fact we had so many left overs we didn't know what to do with them all. The Carne and tortillas I brought out never even got touch, and MPR still had 3lbs of his 5 left. There were also cheezy jalapeno brats, burgers, beans, chips, sonoran tacos, rolled tacos, potato (or macaroni...I didn't see which) salad, lots of salso and guacamole...I'm sure there was more but there was so much activity around the food table it was hard to see what all was there!

Looks like we may have to start sticking to the final friday schedule again. The Summer dunes are calling and they're smooth, fast, and friendly!

I'll have more photos tomorrow. I took a couple panoramas but have to stitch them together before I'll know if they turned out.

Andrew is good, not a bad burn, just like a sunburn and only on his knee cap. It could have been alot worse. By the time I realized what happened and got off the gas and the water quit spewing, he had jumped up and back out of the seat. And that was as we where headed up Comp.

Thanks for the ointment, Andrew said it helped a lot!

We did have a good time up until then. Except for a dead battery before we could leave home... and the what seems to be a faulty wire on the electric fuel pump that made the Jeep die on the way out.. and on the way home. Don't know for sure whats going on with the fuel pump. Its one of those FM things. Engines dies, no brrrp..brrp.. brrp when you listen, roll to a stop and touch the wire or pump and brrp.. brrp..brrp, Varoom - good to go. unsure.gif

Well, the food and company was good anyway. icon_biggrin.gif

I thought I saw him sanding on the side of the jeep as you guys were backing down but figured it was just my imagination, guess not!

No problem, that first aid kit has come in handy several times....helped me out when I touched my exhaust my mistake that one time icon_smile.gif It's getting pretty picked over though, I think that was the last of the burn ointment, the eye wash is evaporated, the instant ice packs are expired, most of the bandaids won't stick....think it's time I spent another $25 at sams club for a replacement. It definately was worth the cost of entry!

Forgot to mention it looks like I've suffered failure of my third Optima now icon_sad.gif Sure enough I had to get a jump start to get home. The ampmeter was showing the alternator charging the whole way there and the whole way home...but that battery just won't hold a charge. And the store I bought it from refuses to warranty it because it's dirty and obviously well used. Mark says there's an interstate store in town that will honor Optima warrantys even on ones they didn't sell though....so I may take all three up there and see what they'll do.

Had a good time, good company. Too bad my daughter had to be on horseback by 6:30 or I would have stayed longer. It was slightly warm early, but the breeze picked up just enough, and by sunset it was downright nice! See ya guys next time!
mccarty7
I had a fun. I wish I woulda got there earlier. That was the original plans but then mom tagged along. I'm glad she did, she brought the mtorhome. icon_smile.gif

We stayed until Saturday afternoon. I saw the most beautiful sunrise, ever. We went to the top of Buttercup comp. and watched the sunrise over all the summer sands. Then shot up to Glamis to catch up with some buddies there. They brought out the big generator lights to light up comp. hill at night. Some big 'ol banshees. For the work that my banshee has done, I got clocked at 55 mph going up Olds. (not bad, not bad) I need a sprocket change, bad. But anyway.

I wish I could been there earlier Jason. I felt terrible for not showing up on time. But there will be more, right? beer.gif
Later guys.....~Ryan
jhitesma
That's OK Ryan, I felt bad for not being able to stay and hang out with you longer icon_sad.gif

I really wanted to at least go back to comp one more time but we had to be up by 8AM the next morning and my GF and I aren't exactly morning people icon_biggrin.gif And we didn't know we'd have to be up by 8 until that evening so even though I had planned on staying until about 3AM we had to head back considerably earlier.

I'm sure there will be a next time. Think we may give up on the tuesday in town dinners though and just focus on the friday evening BBQ's. Seems like we always get a good number of people at the BBQ's but the tuesday dinners sometimes end up being just me sitting at the bar playing trivia by myself since everyone else has commitments on weeknights icon_sad.gif

mccarty7
LOL.....yeh, i agree with the Friday Night BBQ. Whenever u plan a next one, let us know and we will be there. (A lot earlier, lol).

Until then, stay cool.
