Stopped at the Verizon store the other day and the wife and I are both considering the Droid X with their $30 data package for each. Only thing I dont like is the touch keypad vs regular keys which would be preferred. I assume I need to stick with Verizon since my phone now works so good in areas like the dunes and mountains in the summer. Right now two of the Droid Xs would be $220 after the buy one get one free. If I wait until Jan 7th for my $50 renewal to be available it will be cheaper if the promotion is still available. So whats good out there?

My wife and three friends have the Droid HTC Incredible and they all love it. I'm due for an upgrade next week and will go get one for myself. Hoping to find a sale. Called Verizon last week and they said is would be $310 out the door and then I can mail in the $100 rebate. But my wife gets a deal through work so I may have to wait till she gets back Dec 31st.

After having a different touch screen I was sceptical that it would work. Bought the droid X and it is the best phone I have had. Big screen, typing with the phone vertical is even easy, lots of apps. Only down fall is the battery, I need to be careful so it lasts the day. I talk about 2500 min a month.
Iphone last 2 to 3 days but Verizon has been whispering for a year or better that they will get the phone. Go on you tube and type in droid x or Iphone lots of good video

With Apple and their products you are stuck with what they tell you. Can't jailbreak your phone - Illegal, Can't have iPhone on another carrier (without mods), You are stuck with what apple says and thats it. Android will give you the source code (Required by law) and you can tweak it and play with it and do whatever the hell you want to do with it. Open source.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking
Jailbreaking[1] is a process that allows iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and recently Apple TV users to gain root access to the command line of the iOS operating system, thereby removing usage and access limitations imposed by Apple. Once jailbroken,[1] iOS users are able to download extensions and themes that are unavailable through the App Store (via installers such as Cydia) and perform other tasks that are not possible on store-bought devices, including installing non-Apple operating systems such as Linux.[2] A jailbroken iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch running iOS can still use the App Store and iTunes and other normal functions, such as making telephone calls.
Jailbreaking is different from SIM unlocking,[3] which, once completed, means that the mobile phone will accept any SIM without restriction on, for example, the country or network operator of the owners choice. Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking is legal in the United States, although Apple may claim it to void your warranty.[4] It is also legal in many other countries including the EU. The jailbreaking process can be quickly and easily reversed by restoring the device in iTunes.
Cydia creator Jay Freeman estimates that over 10% of all iPhones are jailbroken.[5]

ROM stands for Read Only Memory. It refers to a piece of software that runs the phone. Think of a ROM as Windows for a laptop. It is really a slang or nickname for phone software.

Even if you can now legally modify a copy written source code developed by Apple infringing on their copyright, it doesn't change the fact that most users will use the now legally modified source code to illegally download 'Paid" applications for free.
The legal modification to successfully jailbreak a phone is the vehicle for illicit activity.
But to be honest, I really don't care. I feel that people pay big bucks for the phone, and they should be able to do whatever they damn well please.
I am all for Rooting and jailbreaking and using your machine to its full potential, I tell people to just be aware of the consequences. Rooting and Jailbreaking may lead to your warranty being void, and not being repaired if needed. All of my phones are rooted and i suggest everyone do so as well.
I wonder if the DMCA will mind if I circumvent the registration and licensing process of Windows in order to run the software without having to pay?

XDARooting will literally do nothing to your phone that you will notice. It simply allows root access. Not until you flash a ROM will you see anything different.
If you have any HTC phones Near one click rooting software can be had from
Unrevoked. Please check your phone's software version, and follow all directions for rooting. A rooted phone is harmless, the rooting process if you are unlucky and happen to mess something up can possibly lead to bricking your phone. It doesn't usually happen, just be aware that it can. Also, make sure you have an RUU for your phone before you attempt root, just in case you mess up, or you decide you don't want a custom rom.
If you happen to have an HTC Hero, or an HTC EVO, the only place to go to is

Who said anything about ripping apps onto it?
You just stated it was illegal, I just want to clarify
a few things with the statementhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreakingUnited States legal issues
Jailbreaking an iPod or iPhone in the United States is legal "fair use", and does not violate copyright laws defined by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. In response to a request by the Electronic Frontier Foundation,
the U.S. Copyright Office explicitly recognized an exemption to the DMCA to permit jailbreaking in order to allow iPhone owners to use their phones with applications that are not available from Apple's store, and to unlock their iPhones for use with unapproved carriers.[62][63] Apple had previously filed comments opposing this exemption and indicated that they did consider jailbreaking to be a violation of copyright (and by implication prosecutable under the DMCA). Apple's request to define jailbreaking as a violation of copyright was denied as part of the 2009 DMCA rulemaking. In their ruling, the Library of Congress affirmed on July, 26, 2010 that jailbreaking is legal under U.S. copyright law.

I guess I will be the first one to say that I prefer a Blackberry. I started with a BB Curve, then switched to an Iphone and hated it, and just went back to the new Blackberry Bold and love it. I will also say that I dont use my phone to go online, play with apps or any of that. It is literally an extension of my computer for me, and I use Outlook religously for work. Blackberry does a better job of syncing up to Outlook Exchange. Also, I hated the touch screen and could never get used to it, further the fact that the Iphone did not have a trackball/pad so that I can place the cursor wherever I wanted drove me a little crazy.
I have a few co-worker who have the Droid's and love them, and they say they do an okay job of syincing up to Outlook with a third party app, but even then they have issues with delays. I have never had one though so cant say anything good or bad about them.

I purchased a Droid a few months ago right when the Droid X came out. Went with the droid because the price was better and I wanted the slide out keyboard. Didn't think I'd like the touch screen one the X has.
After using the touch screen keyboard and getting used to it, I am now waiting for my wife's upgrade to come through (tomorrow actually) so I can use her discount and get the droid X and give her my Droid
Anyone know of any good deals on the droid X? Walmart had one around thanksgiving where you got a $100 walmart card with the purchase of a smart phone but we missed that one

Wife and I got Droid Xs and the kids wanted the Droid 2s. These things are incredible what they can do.

No Verizon=$$$$$
I also have 4 smartphones now and pay about 2K a year total including insurance on 3 of them and the 4G's (if it ever gets here damn it) on Sprint. I have zero coverage issues.
I will say that this EVO is m-effen AMAZING! I am so used to doing business phones, I am learning the "fun" stuff. I will say that I miss some of my Blackberry stuff for my work but overall I give the EVO 5 stars so far...

I love my Blackberry Torch. I need a phone that works with ALL my emails, calenders, reminders, is easy to txt, and gets good reception and sounds good. Id be lost without the ability to sync to Outlook.
As a bonus, the desktop software syncs wirelessly to my torch through my home wi-fi network, so i have all my music on my phone as well. (i have an 8gig cars in it, and am gonna get a 16gig card soon) Absolutely no need for a iPod, cause it syncs bluetooth to my truck also, and can play my music, or slacker radio in my truck.
I dont need to play games on my phone all day. Blackberries do what needs to be done.

I'm pretty much unhappy with every phone on the market except the EVO...which I don't have

They all suck otherwise. If it has great hardware, it has crap software. Great software, awful hardware and fills with sand easily.
I'm probably going to crack open my Fascinate as soon as a good 2.2 ROM comes along to offset the software issue. Samsung software support=fail. Broken promises galore.

River, I do agree that the Blackberry is the BEST for the outlook, it irritates me that I can't just open but EVO mail and everything is marked as read and I can't delete a gob of email like I used to do on Crackberry. I also miss the BES security I had too. I have heard great thing about the Torch too.

Well except the ATT part it is a great device.

I don't play any games too much but I love the Kindle on the full screen!

The Torch is head and sholders about the Bold or the Pearl. It's a different animal all together.
Why does everyone hate on AT&T? I've never had a problem with them!
