Here is the problem...I have a 86 LT250. There is a water leak at the water pump housing. I have replaced all the seals and the gaskets. The weird thing is that if i loosen one of the bolts, the leak stops. Does this mean that I have a broken pump? I have done everything that I can think of to fix the leak. If I can't find a break in the pump or the case, could I put some of that stuff that is used in cars to fix small radiator repairs? or will this just make a mess and block water passages that need to be open. I guess that I am out of ideas. Any help or advice would be great...

I wouldn't use anything like stop leak in your cooling system. Pull it apart and look to make sure that it's put together right. Also look to see if there are any cracks or pry marks on the sealing surfaces that could be causing the leak.

The parts can also be warped. Are you tightening them down with a torque wrench or just by hand as hard as you can go? If it's the latter, you might be warping the parts by overtightening.

I HAD AN 89 LT 250 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IS IT COMING OUT OF THE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SIDE CASING OR OUT OF THE SEAL. MINE LEAKED A LITTLE BIT OUT THE HOLE NOT SEAL AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OF MY BIKE OVERHEATING. IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AFTER I REPLACED THE WATER PUMP I TOOK IT APART MANY TIMES AND FOUND THAT I HAD TO PUT A LITTLE SILICONE WHEN TAPPING IN THE SEAL FOR THE WATER PUMP.

If water is coming out of the "weeping hole" then the mechanical seal inside is bad. That hole is there to drain water off before it meets the oil seal of the Transmission.
