I just got a Z 400 on friday, had a geat time riding this weekend except for that little over the bars incident. I want to get a pipe, jetting, & possibly a K&N. does any one have any reccomendations for me? so far I like the E-series, and I really like the Alba kit. Also if anyone could reccomend what jetting to use that would be great, I dont want to spend $50 on a jet kit. Last question, Is it really safe to run a K&N and modify the airbox? I know i should use the outerwhere, & I ride mostly in sand, or in the desert with alot of dust. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Albas kit is probably the best deal out there. It includes everything your looking for AND it has all the jets etc ready to go. They have already done the research for you. Just bolt on and go!

Oh, be sure to drop one tooth on the front sprocket. I did and it made a huge difference, now I'm going to add 2 more to the rear.

Yoshimura full exhaust, k&n jet kit, pro design intake with the lid on and snorkel removed. Revolutionizes the quad. My wife has that set-up and it ran like a beast two weeks ago at Glamis. I greatly prefer the foam UNI air-filter to a K&N for the dunes and always use an outer-wear. If the Trinity pipe is available then get that as it is one trick MOFO. Contact Mark H. at www.billetbikeworks.com for your go fast goodies. He is a cool dude and knows what works.

I have the Alba kit on mine and WOW! Night & Day difference! I never thought a pipe, intake & filter (no airbox lid) and jet kit would make THAT much of a difference on a 4 stroke. It's awesome! It's a little on the loud side as I got the Alba Stage 3 kit which has the open baffle. They also have one similiar to the E series which is probably quieter but I wanted the max HP possible. I run stock gearing and it throws my 210lbs up Comp @ Buttercup in a strong 3rd gear. I was runnin' borrowed Sand Skate 1's. I could take off in 2nd and feather the clutch for about 5 feet, grab 3rd before the whoops and keep it pinned to the top. It did really well to say the least. [Big Grin]

Sounds like these guys have the right idea. Remove the airbox lid and remember to clean your K&N and outerwear after every trip.

Thanks for the help. I do have a few more questions though. how much difference is there between running an e-series silencer with stock head pipe, or with a full system? Also can anyone reccomend what # jets, and needle I should run?

Alba can really give you good answers.
The parts guys seem to have the facts on combinations of Jets and pipes.
Some pipes are adjustable for noise vs low or top end power, and several air filter kits with jet(s) included are available.

Chances you may need to only go one size up on the jet with a slight adjustment to the carb.

Suzuki and Yamaha have lean jets to pass CARB so their not to far outta whack to begin with.

Alba has been through this already with several customers and have perfected their work and are past the mistake stage.

Tough to get answers over the phone. But don't let that discourage you, they're pretty helpfull there just short handed. E mail them or go on in.

They were great at the SSSS.

Alba supports the efforts to keep rideing areas open with cash and in kind donations so we support them back.

Alba took a new z400 to Glamis and tested the crap out of it. From gearing in the sprockets to the full stage 3 kit.
Stock header with slip on really only adds noise in my opinion.
Their kit has been through the dyno and is straight forward.
They give you the right jets for the pipe and air box.
You can alter you pipe and keep the air the same and not mess with jets at all. BUT if you alter the airbox or filter at all, you will need to rejet it. I am no sales person for alba and in fact they have ****ed me off in the past but they do their homework on the kits they offer.

Go to their website and read up on it if you have questions.
