went to mammoth last weekend...my wife noticed it the day after we got home while she was unpacking the trailer! i know it wasnt that way when we left...so i have no idea exactly when it broke! tongue.gif
Chummin
Zip tie.. good as new.. gonna do that asap..
lincster
Hey Joe, remember when I asked if your 16" setup rubs?
From the last pix you posted, you are getting some rubbing on the inside.
That sucks.
I don't know if you can go to 16" on trailers that haven't had the axles flipped.

Wait a minute, after thinking about it, could you have gotten the rubbing from when the shackles broke?

I know this is asking alot, could you take a pix of the same view on the other side of your trailer for me?
rivermobster
np bro...ill do that tonight! i can tell u this much...from the outside...it looks just fine. my wife noticed the hanger loose between the tires...the way the trailer sits..it appears normal!

had to have happened on the way home from mammoth...cause i always do a walk around before i head out.

did somebody here msg me last night online? i tried to reply but it didnt go through. the build date on the trailer is 10/99
rivermobster
*sigh*

sorry bro...i fell asleep when i got home from work! i have to work tomorrow also...so ill take that pic for u when i get home. got the repair parts today from Zieman. 20 bucks for ALL new shackles, bolts, nuts, and the pivot pieces. they look a lot better than whats on there now!!!!!!!! projects, projects and more projects! tongue.gif
rivermobster
As promised....

Broken side from the outside
rivermobster
Unbroken side from the outside. Not a whole lot of difference! The mark u see on the tire is from the shakle being broken. These tires have been on for maybe 2k mi so far. No problems at all! (with the tires!) tongue.gif
lincster
Cool, thx Joe.
Have you seen any rubbing on the inside, on the back of the tire?
I saw you had some rubbing on the back of the tire in an earlier pix but I figured it was from the broken schakle.
rivermobster
only that little contact u see on the broken side. if u look at the good side (first pic) there is no contact at all. icon_cool.gif

Did mine yesterday. 4 of the 24 I had to do wouldn't take any grease (3 axle WW). Read up on the manual last night and it says greaseing them is NOT required but can be done if you feel like it. wacko.gif

Rivermobster.
damn, thats a lesson learned the hard the hard way for sure. what concerns me though is the shackle brackets themselves. even with less than adequite lubrication, i would thing they should have held a little better than they did. you may want to look for am upgraded brackets sytem. nonetheless, im glad you pointed this out. i learned this lesson from building many backyard trailers from existing trailers that i have used the axles and springs from, and found that the zerk fitted pins are all dried up and starting to show wear. my local trailer supply house sells the zerk fitted pins for a seasonable price, and i highly recomend them to folks that still have the teflon sleeved non zerk pins. the teflon sleeves are great for smaller trailers that see very little maitenance, but the upgrade to these pins are a must for travel trailers. sorry for the unfortunate brakage, but thanks for the post. good post man. icon_biggrin.gif

I just got a 2005 ww cl45 and was going through the trailer before the first big trip and there was NO GREASE at all.The guy I bought the trailer from had the WHOLE TRAILER serviced buy a WW dealer 25bangin.gif just prior to Thanksgiving!!!I guess the full service does not include lubing the suspension.BTW I don't think those zerks have ever seen a drop of grease!! icon_sad.gif I also had some of the zerks pop off angryfire.gif I have never seen some that just pop on and off(not screw in) blury.gif Other than that the rest of the trailer seemed fine monkeedance2.gif

What size Zerk fittings do I need to get?
My new trailer has some missing.
Also, do I have to tap to get them in or just screw them in?
Thanks
Oldman
You can get the hammer in kind if your holes are not tapped.

Napa has the self-threading ones. icon_wink.gif

GREAT NEWS....

Being a huge skeptic, it sounds like Zieman knows of an issue and sends out the parts cheap so as to not incure problems with customers. Those broken brackets look more like a case of binding and lack of strength in the bracket, than lubrication issues. Lubricating is mostly for the bolt and bushing, not the exterior bracket.

I'll check mine this week too!! However, I'll be checking for wear on the bracket (metal to metal binding and rubbing, cracks...etc)... and throw some grease down the zerk for good measure.

... again thank you.

With your brakes... did you repack your wheel bearings? Or replace them? I know of issues with them too... NOT good.

Let us know, I'm interested in doing wheel bearings but haven't done them on this trailer and don't know costs... where to buy proper bearings/parts. ...and where's the "how to" on the brakes?! icon_biggrin.gif smile.gif

The grease fitting is to grease the spring and bolt, not the shackle and bolt. The shackle and bolt should work as one. In other words the bolt should have ridges on it near the head to seat the shackle to it. I had the same problem on my trailer. The shackle was wearing on the bolt and it wore itself out and broke.
slowman
I tried to lube my trailer today. The zerk fittings on the part that is connected to the frame took grease but the others would not take any grease. I know that the zerk fitting is not plugged because the fitting came off and I saw grease coming out the end of it. Does anyone know why it would not take grease.

Thanks in advance...

crud built up on the inside would be my guess
