OK this guy thinks that running the paddles with high pressure they will hook up better, and running them with low pressure they fold and dont hook up, whats the truth to this?
I have sandstars and they came pretty pumped full of air, i lowered the pressure to 3.5 on each, and i love it i have yet got stuck up a dune unless i was in a high gear, he also didnt say what paddles he had though, i still think low pressure is better what do you guys think or know?
so whats better high or low pressre?

honestly i usually run my tires a little bit lower when in glamis becuase i get a smoother ride.

me too. I run about 3 lb's in my ITP Sand stars

2-3 p.s.i for me works great. Just rember that the lower the air pressure the larger the contact patch between the tire and the sand. So therefore the lower the air pressure the better the traction. ( just dont run them so low that you pop the bead!!!

higher pressure= less traction more tire spin
lower pressure= more traction less spin
I run my tire @ high pressure. I already have plenty of bite with my 33's and Id rather the tire spin than break a CV , axle or ring and pinion. Too much traction can be a bad thing.

I've been getting by fine with 2-2.5 PSI. If your bike is bogging down in the sand because it has huevos poquitos, a few extra pounds will take a bit of the bite off the paddles so they'll spin more freely.

Well this guy thinks the more pressure the better traction, so ill tell him theres no way, i dont know how long hes bee duning but i know lots of you guys have been duning forever so im going with the lower the pressure the better traction which i told him and he didnt believe me

It's ok, he doesn't have to believe you. You'll just have the satisfaction of knowing he's wrong.
Tire pressure is a form of tuning, just like adjusting your jetting or suspension. I, like a few here, get plenty of bite from my haulers so I run a little higher pressure to slide around better. Helps the tires spin at the start of a drag race also. I run 2 psi in my 110 atc cause I need all the flotation I can get.
I'll run 6 psi in my dirtbike for duning but if I'm racing at the hill, I'll go up to 10 so the tire spins at the launch and I don't go over backwards.

3 lbs in the stars up front
5 lbs in the stars at the rear, works for me.

I'm tending to run more lately. I like to slide out easier.
I'm going to run more in the front next time to see if it will turn me better.

ask him this!
Whats the first thing you do when your vehical get stuck in the sand?
Thats right ,you lower your tire pressure!
Why?
Lower tire pressure expands the footprint of the tire making it larger, therefore giving you more traction.
Tell him he owes you a few ICDB's

for being soooo wrong

wow...
there are so many vairables here! what brand of paddles? v or straight paddles? 6 paddles or 10? smooth or tripple buffed? how many hp are you trying to tame? straight line drag racing or hill shooting? or just recreational crusing? how heavy is the quad? how bout the rider? ever see what the For Snow's look like as they expand with RPM?
there is no right or wrong answer here. it just depends on the paticular application your are trying to dial in. a novel could be written on this subject!

Rookie!

You should never get stuck.

To stay on topic, I used to run my quad tires at 3 - 3 1/2 PSI.
My truck gets further in 2WD with 8PSI than it gets in 4WD with 30PSI. Lower pressure = more traction.

hey thats when im running my stock nobbies at superstition in the sand, they dig when i hit first and i have to keep in 2nd the whole time or they will just dig, i dont think i have gotten stuck or stalled up hill on my Z in the dunes, well i did do it on purpose to throw a huge roost

3.5 all around for me.

Jun 22 2004, 08:26 AM
5psi in front for me and 4psi in the rear. I was told a long time ago that that was optimal for my paddles.
The whole idea is to stay on top of the sand not down in it...

I run 4 psi front and rear, good balance between traction and sliding and enough air to keep the tire on the bead.

Last time I checked the pressure in my sand skate IIs there was 0psi I have been running them like that for about 3 seasons now.

Jun 23 2004, 10:35 AM
i ran 3-4 in my sand sharks. i dont like molded paddles anymore so ill be running haulers or extremes next season so i suspect around 5-8 psi.

low pressure with beadlocks mutch better traction
i usualy run 5lbs in the front and 2 and a half in the rear

All depends on the sand for me, when the sand is real dry and powdery Ill run lower pressure when the sand is firmer like on a holiday weekend /w/ no wind Ill up the pressure couldn't tell you what psi it's just a feel thing for me.
No matter what I do though I tend to piss off the people behind me, Some people won't even ride behind me and most don't do it for long

I think that is what Josh was running in his wheeler one time. I checked it with my 20lb. max gauge and it went to 20. Let air out for a little while and it still registered over 20
