Hey, whazz up? I know you guys have this down already and have like a routine..How often do you change the oil and filter from your quads? I have 2 2004 400EX's and 1 YFZ450. There is probably 15-20 hours on the 400's and 25-30 on the YFZ. I already did the first oil change on the YFZ. Some folks say they change their oils once per Glamis season. You think that's enough? What other maintenance do you perform on your quads?

Thanks,

I change my oil quite often. I would say about every other trip. I change the filter about 2-3 times a season, depending on how much I go. One thing you need to remember, when the bikes are riden they are riden hard and at high rpm's. This puts a lot of strain on a motor. You will break down the oil faster on a bike than in a car. I don't know about everyone else, but that is what I think.

You will need to change the oil in your yfz more than your exs because its a race motor and pulls higher rpms. I change mine about every 4 months. Do you guys change your oil filter every time you change your oil? So far I have... pimp.gif

I change my filter every 2-3 oil changes. I did change on the first break in oil change though.

Change the oil on that YFZ ALOT more often! Your motor depends on it. It revs to 11,000rpm and has less than two quarts in it. As was stated, it was built as a race motor and needs that fresh oil. It breaks down oil fairly quickly and has a small drysump to keep weight down. I changed the oil in my YZ400F every other ride. The filter was changed every other oil change as per the dealer. My bike was rebuilt after three years and had 20% leakdown which is the minimum recommended for the bike.

My buddy at work doesn't change his as often and he's hearing a crank bearing go on his 426. Mucho expensive.

I have a trail tech enduro computer on my raptor, set to change oil at 200 miles and filter/lubs zerks every 400, averages about every 3rd trip.

So, every how many trips change the oil in the YFZ? Or how many hours, approx.? I used to change the oil in my RM250 every 5-6 rides, 'cause it was 2 stroke.

I change my oil once per year..oil/filters/plugs...lube every few trips, chain oiled every trip....it depends on how much you ride, and where...my stuff doesn't generally see water.....and its all good...just be sure to use oil designed for your bike...regular car oil is much different then motorcycle/wet clutch oil....

Wow, this was an old post...

haha its really old, but it made its way almost to the top!

Oil every two rides, filter every two oil changes. With the high dust content of the operationg enviroment, the clutch fibers being released in a wet clutch setup, and the slicing and dicing of the oil molecules in the tranny, four stroke oils take a beating.

Nice, thanks.

I change every 20 hrs or so. I use AMSOIL ATV/ 4 stroke Synthetic oil & filters.
Runs cooler, cleans better, and no friction modifiers and will outlast nearly all others incase you'd rather not change it so often. Friction modifiers are the reason NOT to use car oils. Hope you've changed it a few times since your original post. icon_biggrin.gif
