My wife drove the kids and some of the ladies to venders to get some ice cream and she got stopped for tinted windows. The LEO asked for her licence and proof of insurance. The insurance card i had in the truck had expired this month and the new one was on my desk at home which sucks because he wrote her for no proof of insurance and windows. When did they start asking for insurance again? The last few times i have gotten pulled over the LEO didnt even want to see my insurance card when i offered. Do these LEO's have nothing better to do than stop people for small BS crap. I was under the understanding that the LEO's were in the dunes to make it a safe place to be able to take your familey, not to stop people at will and give them tickets for anything they can find. Sometimes i almost dont want to leave camp and just sit by the fire just so i dont get stopped for some pettty BS. I think from now on i will be skipping the big weekends and going on slow weekends so the LEO's arent parked every 100 yards waiting for you to screw up. Did any one else run into this this weekend?

They have always asked for proof of insurance in CA.
I can tell you that as long as your policy was in effect when the ticket was issued it's (or was a year and a half ago) part of the fine amount and will be reduced upon showing proof of insurance at the court. I'd gotten a speeding ticket Aug of 09 and hadn't put the insurance card in the car.. ticket was over $1100, reduced by $800 at the payment window when I gave her my insurance card that showed the dates covered the ticket date.

I don't know how you people live in that state.. In AZ. if you get a no proof of ins ticket, you make a copy, mail it in to the court, done deal... no fine or anything.

The tinted windows are a safety issue. Probably won't have to pay any fine on either of those tickets. I'm sure the windows is fix it and go to court and provide proof of insurance. Not really a revenue generator.

your windows are tinted = against the law.

Why is this a BS ticket? You know it is against the law and when you have tinted windows like this, you are taking a chance that someone will pull you over. LEOs in the dunes pull people for all sorts of things, most of the time it is to interaction with people and see if they had been drinking or something else. I believe the days of warnings, both at Glamis and here in the city, are over. Our government is telling them, if they are breaking the law, you are going to get a ticket. So why temp fate and have tinted windows?

Sorry, I don't see the sympathy card for this.......

man, you guys in cali can't have tinted windows? hell I couldn't function without mine, you have to burn up otherwise dont ya?

or is it a certain tint, like limo tint?

You can have the back window tinted, and you can have side windows tinted as long as they are not the two front windows (ie: a 4 door vehicle can have the two rear windows tinted). If a vehicle has factory tinted front side windows that's legal. You cannot tint your front windshield but I believe you can have a 4" tint strip at the top of the windshield. Going to google that one though...
Mac
I HATE window tinting. I can't stand riding in a vehicle with it and driving at night??? Hell no....

Give me the sun...
Scataloni
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

◦Windshield | Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
◦Front Side Windows | Must allow more than 70% of light in.
◦Back Side Windows | Any darkness can be used.
◦Rear Window | Any darkness can be used.

Umm Mac if you lived here in the Desert you'd love window tint. I gave it to myself as a birthday present last year in my honda. Otherwise it was an oven in the summer. Best money i've ever spent. Now I did know the laws and kept it to the back window and rear passenger door windows.

My dad who is almost 70 got pulled over on his way home from Prescott. Cop informed him his windows were to dark and made him remove it. It wasn't even limo tint. You could see in just fine.

sandrails aren't street legal but you can drive them in the desert so what does tint matter in the desert??? street is another thing, and depending on what state you are from different laws apply on tint. also you don't need ins to ride or drive in the deset???

This wasn't a Off Road Vehicle, this was a California Licensed truck in the dirt. Even though it is dirt, the vehicle still needs adhere to the laws in which it is licensed. My point is, is this really a BS ticket? Every big weekend some one comes on this site to complain about BS tickets, in this case I don't see why this is a BS ticket.

Leo's target these things as an excuse to have interaction, what if they came upon 10 pounds of dope or an open container on this pull over, is it still BS?

The days of warnings are over.

In the end, it is a fix it ticket and this Mom was sober and responsible, so all good.
stetler
Both of those infractions ARE just simple fix it tickets. Once you get your statement/ticket confirmation in the mail, You can mail back a copy of your insurance card showing it's valid during the time/date when the ticket was issued with that statement/ticket conf. paperwork. The windows will need to be fixed (tint removed) and then taken to a CHP office (no fee) or any police department (will cost you $$).

Actually there is still a fee from the local police dept. that issued the ticket. It shouldn't be more then $20. if the ticket gets signed off.

or If you have any friends that are Cops you just have them sign it off and you keep your tint on. smile.gif

I've got MANY of these same tickets. It is a pretty stupid thing to get a ticket for but like the other member on here said, Most of the time it's just a way for the Cop to stop you and interact with you. You'd be suprised how many people they arrest for no lic. warrants, DUI and all kinds of things where people shouldn't be behind the wheel & all from getting pulled over by a little old fix it ticket.
predu
so if you get an out taillight ticket in wash 18 are you gonna be cool with it???? no law i know of that says you need 2 in the desert???

I under stand the laws and am ok with them. I just dont feel that a mom and a car full of kids should be stopped for windows wile driving in the sand behind vendors. I saw way too many stupid thing going on that weekend that went un noticed like riding with no helmet and a few guys driving sandrails with a beer beetween their legs or the guy i saw riding his 5 year old around on a quad in the washes with no helmets at all. these are the things that they should be concentrating on.
what hurts?
That right there is the true character test. It's all good when people knowingly break the law until they get caught. That is the point where they need to make a decision. Do I take responsibility for my actions & move on or play the blame game. "It's b.s, my father beat me, my mother never loved me, I was singled out, Chummin did it!
Sadly todays society seems to do the latter.....

You know what the differance between a BS ticket and this one is....

I got pulled over for rolling a right on a red once. Cop wrote me up for thatchecked my insurance and DL..

Then he came back with this little light meter thing. He had me roll down my window and placed the thing on my window.....
He then said yep to dark and wrote me up. Well just like in Ca. it was just afix it ticket and sense my tint was pretty old and faded I thought I would just go ahead and replace it with the legal stuff....

Took it to a friend of mine who tinted windows. He started taking off the tint and mentioned that it wasdue and it would be alot better looking with the new tint. Probaly alot darker to , to which I replied no it can't be darker I need AZ legal tint..... Then he asked what the l% on the light meter was. I told him he laughed and said I was way under Az legal and thatticket was BS..

See the differance?

We purchased our car when we lived in AZ and got the darkest legal tint allowable by AZ law on the front side windows and the rear side windows.
We moved back to CA and still have the AZ legal tint. We know it's not legal in CA and will likely get a citation for it at some point in time. We will accept the consequences when that happens. We don't have a front license plate either. The car didn't not come pre-mounted for a plate in front and we haven't done it ourselves. Once again, we will accept the consequences if we get written up for no front license plate. At this point in time, the costs and time to take care of these issues is not worth the risk. But we sure aren't going to come on here and whine if we do get written up. We knowingly have illegal tint and no front license plate and will take the consequences without whining, regardless of what we think of those laws personally. dunno.gif

20 years ago, me and my buddies would run around in lowered mini trucks with black windows. We would get stopped all the time, get cited for lowered and tint, get the trucks signed off, then put them back right after. We laughed about it, todays generation moans about it.

While I won't say it was a BS ticket your windows where tinted but I do like a good ranger bashing thread. So how about Sunday at the drags and the para-sailor run down by at lest 4 BLM vehicles, one of which was an unmarked SUV. BY the way those things come down really quick when they are forced to stop suddenly. Or the sand rail going 5 mph the was run down and cut of by the Imperial County Sheriff rail. Good thing that guy was able to stop fast enough or I'm sure they would have arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon.

While I won't say it was a BS ticket your windows where tinted but I do like a good ranger bashing thread. You were impressed by a guy who could stop his rail quickly going 5 mph?

We saw that and said the same thing that chute will drop fast and then go that many rangers for this really???

As for the tinted windows you need to drive a highway vehicle with the assumption you will get stopped for the smallest thing. My buggy broke and i did not want to drive my truck around.I have no fnt plate and dont want to get stopped for it i know they will there too.We did take it to the store but i had my wife drive beer.gif beer.gif I did see a few people pulled over along the 78 in front of sweet maries this trip from both sheriff and rangers
