Does any one know what could cause a very severe vibration on this bike or have you ever experienced it. It just started in like one day. As you rev it up, it gets worse and worse...

It also gets hotter than normal and stays hot longer than usuall.

I took apart the top end thinking it might be a worn piston and rings from the sand, but it is in great shape.

I have heard that it could be either the:
>Counter Balancer
>Flywheel
>or the crank and/or bearings

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am depressed that this is happening and that I cannot ride.

Thank you!

It did not lose any power. It just had a very fast vibration. The Piston did have a little play in the cyclinder. You could walk it up back and forth in the cyclinder. Could the piston cause such a vibration? The bike is new. I checked the flywheel and it is tight and not out of round. The is no eveidence of metal or sand particles in the bottom end. I am startinf to think it was the piston. There is wear down to the 1st ring but nothing after that.

It had never been wrecked...

Thanks...

HAVE YOU CHECKED THE MOTOR MOUNTS ? TO WEAR OUT A FOUR STROKE PISTON WOULD TAKE SOME SERIOUS ABUSE .WHAT WERE YOU DOING WHEN THE VIBE SHOWED UP

WE were just dunning half way across Glamis from the washes to Gecko road to visit some friends.
As I was riding it, I noticed it. I stopped immediately and towed it back. It was really hot though. Motor mounts are good and tight.

Thanks for your help. Is something else comes to mind, please let me know. There was loud noise coming from the top end when is vibrated. Plus it smelled hot. Also it was almost a quart of oil low. Do new bikes burn oil at first as they break in?

well, if its brand new, it has a 6 month warranty, sounds like you might need it. who knows what getting that hot did to it.

Are you sure the vibe is coming from the engine? If you rev the bike up in neutral, does it still vibrate or do you have to be moving?

Well not Brand new, I meant that it has been hardly ridden yet, barely even broken in. Could the piston being a little loose in the cyclinder cause it to vibrate in your opinion? Is it possible for sand to get into the bottom end and do something to the crank or counterbalancer?

thanks...

check to see if the exaust is solid mounted or rubber mounted.if there is no rubber that could be your problem

You may have lost a motor mount or 2. A girl I know had the same problem... [Big Grin] Vibrated and wiggled something feirce.

Got lock-nuts?

It sounds to me like the balancer shaft bearing holder has broke. It is one of the weak points on a Honda. If that's it, then for 60 buck and a little time you are on your way.

I would suggest that you purchase a CLYMER book for your quad. They really come in handy.
