I just had my dog chipped on Monday. This morning I noticed a few drops of blood coming out of his penis. No blood in his urine from what I can tell.

I am taking him to the vet here shortly.

I know there is a pet forum, I just felt there is more traffic here.

Thanks

My only concern, is that my dog has been rolling on the ground, on his side and back scratching himself like a normal dog. Can this cause issues?
duner21
We have got that done on every dog we have had. No issues at all that we have ever seen. The chip works we have found numerous dogs with no collars and always got them back to their owner. Any vet can see if a dog is chipped and will help get the dog home!

Never had any problems with 6 of them. Sounds unrelated to me, but what the hell do I know. tongue.gif

I have never heard of any problems either, the only other concern, I have a tri-tronics collar I use, mainly just the beep and not the correction. I can't believe an e-collar would do anything either.

thanks folks!

I've never heard anything like that from micro-chipping.

Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just never heard of it personally. I know one of my mom's dogs swoll up bad around the chip, and another tiny yorkie she has you can feel it, but the dog is like 3lbs.

I found this site too
http://www.avma.org/issues/microchipping/m...ipping_bgnd.asp

scroll down to adverse reactions. Nothing reported like what your dog is going through, and most were more local to the implant. It may just be a coincidence and unrelated dunno.gif

I have my dogs chipped, and none have had that problem from the chip. Our Dane has had some bladder issues tho, that put some blood in her urine, tho. I would bet on that, before the chip.

Unless your chip is actually a submarine...

You know how it goes... Enlisted men get STD's, Officers have UTI's.

Thanks for all the info and links, I left him at the vet and they are going to take a few pics to see if there is anything going on.

I think you folks are right, probably just a coincidence.

If he snuck out and somehow caught a STD, he is in big trouble for not using protection! He is a playa!

Lucky7
no problems with 4 dogs

Looks like you folks are right. UTI related to the early stages of kidney/bladder stones.

X-rays are not showing anything at this time and he is on some antibiotics while we wait for the results of his blood work.

Any suggestions to get him to drink more water?

Damn expensive bill today. Damn I love this dog.

Thanks again everyone.

Great call on the PB and cranberry pills.

I figured if he is a retriever, I don't want a ball or stick, I want CASH to pay for all these visit.

Thanks!!!!

I had a dalmation that got urinary stones, actually had to have suregery to have his urethra resectioned to be able to pass them, yes it was $$$. Anyway what we did to get him to drink more water was to put water in his food basically making it like a bowl of cereal, this only works if your dog eats at specific times not a grazer that you always leave food out.

This dog is costing me some $$$$$$$ Between his TPLO and his allergies, he better hope these do not result in surgery. We are taking him to an allergist on Monday and this dog is starting to look like a RZR. I mean all the money that has been spent on him I probably could have bought one by now.

I tried to give im the water with the food and he did not dig that at all. On the first try at least. Been giving him some saltines and PB.

Actually, he is a great dog, never runs away, never chews anything unless given to him, does not take food off the table unless it's given to him. He is truly a great dog except for the fiscal aspect.

Turns out the dog we adopted had a chip, but it was not registered. There were several dogs brought into the rescue that had chips but no owners. You have to make sure they are registered too.

I'm not sure if people get their pets, then let them loose because they don't want them, but not sure how people forget to register their pet or unregister it.

We've had good results by putting a little bit of chicken broth or something similar in the water bowl.

Not so much as for it to be salty or take away the benefits of it being water, just enough to give it a little flavor. Oh, I mean "Flavah", I forgot he's a "Playah"!

Good luck, I love that pic holding the cash.

Great point, I am almost certain the vet registered the chip/dog. They did tell us to update our information if we move or change numbers. Definite follow up.

Great call on the chicken broth, has worked well so far.

He needs to knock up a hottie so we can sell some pups to pay for all his medical expenses.

Did I fail to mention to he is going to an allergist on Monday? He has had really bad allergies and the cost of the antibiotics and medicine has gotten to the point were it will be cheaper to treat him, hopefully. And, I bought a SUP last week so that I can take him and myself out for sessions this summer. I know I am crazy.
