Funny thing about this thread VOR.. the title.. "CLOSED"..

It all started with that small simple word..

Closed - story of my life

I found the dunes and a few years later the fees and temporary closures start

Things got slow over on the GOL/ASA BBS a few weeks ago so I start spending more time over here and what happens, topic closed

I tell you these closures follow me around, but don’t tell anybody

Before I was cut off on the “closed topic” I just wanted to say:

Speaking of CORVA I just received today 6/25/2004 the June issue of Off-roaders in
action. I must be the last person on the mailing list.

BTW I can see why CORVA doesn’t have a bulletin board J
Screamin Ian
what was open so that it needed to be closed?
Washroad
Four threads locked?

Hmmmm. This is looking like what people used to say about the old ASA bbs.

Robert, what is your point here about receiving the news letter?

What is your opinion of why CORVA does not have a bulletin board?

I also am a lifetime CORVA member and I also received my newsletter on the 25th. The point being is that some of the information is stale when the newsletter is so late. For instance, the notices for the ESA rally on the 11th of June. (Yes I know it actually occurred on the 18th) is useless to get that information two weeks after the event has taken place. The newsletter is good to keep up with long-term projects but needs to be a little timelier for high priority events if CORVA wants to get the word out about these types of things.

Not a huge deal most of the time icon_smile.gif

Granted, it needs to be timelier.

I think this issue is a bit late this month and likely stems from a lack of information to the editor from the author(s) of each article in a timely manner. Also, I think that Erin Dyer (the 10 + year Editor, full time job, mom, and wife), really needs some help with both article submission and help with putting this monthly (most of the time) publication together.

I thought Robert might want to volunteer his time and talents.

Duck, I know full well that the article regarding the ESA Protest rally was in the hands of the CORVA newsletter editor before the deadline. Jim can verify this. But why? It's past already so why argue about it? Does no good now.

Brian:

This very well may be true, but publishing a monthly newsletter takes more than just one "press release" or article.

I know that our Southern Regional Director Jim Arbogast and his assistant Wayne Todd were in attendance at your rally. So, in a sense, some in the CORVA leadership supported the event.

My point here was that Robert made some reference to the CORVA newsletter and why he thought we did not have an internet forum. When "Doc" responded I offered my best explanation of what happened, as I know Erin very well (since a teenager) and understand the complexities of putting together a monthly publication.

Chances are that you have not been in a newsletter editor position of a volunteer organization. A wise person once said: “One first needs to walk a mile in a persons shoes to understand where they are coming from.” icon_surprised.gif

Yes, I knew they were there. I handed them flyers when I was at B&R Buggies in Oceanside, and then talked with them for awhile. I knew CORVA was represented at the rally and I'm very happy they were there and gave their support.

As far as publishing a monthly, well, I work for a newspaper! icon_biggrin.gif (I'm actually a subcontractor for one.) I see what goes on. You see, I'm not badmouthing CORVA's newsletter, and I think you ought to lighten up here. I know there's a lot of work and effort involved, and CORVA being all volunteer means that people not only have to do things to take care of their personal lives, then try to find time to do their volunteer work.

I'm chairman of 3 committees for the ASA, and worked on the ESA rally. All the while this was going on, big remodling project on my house, working full time myself, keeping my wife happy by shopping for new furniture (at least I got a new plasma TV for it!!!! icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif ), etc.!

I've walked a few miles. icon_biggrin.gif

On a lighter note... I think it's great that a lot of AZ residents are members of CORVA. I moved to AZ this year but still plan to renew my CORVA membership at the Sand Sports Super Show.

I think the Internet is a great tool for organizing and communicating and when the green groups start to feel threatened by it, they will want it taxed to restrict access

Yes, I had a nice talk to both Jim and Wayne while standing at a corner holding picket signs UP... icon_cool.gif Both are GREAT supporters that can be counted on!!! icon_smile.gif

Well Brian, I don't know you can say that CORVA is an ALL volunteer organization. And I just received my IN ACTION in the mail too. I know Erin personally and know she had many things going on right now. What she needs is MORE HELP... icon_biggrin.gif But why print a story if you know its going to be that late??? I will ask her.

It was still better than the BRC mag... who LOST the story completely... icon_sad.gif

And Sand Addition mag was going to run the story too??? I haven't heard what happen yet but what a quink-a-dink(sp?) that the Land Use editor choose to do a story on the ESA...in the June Issue rollsmile.gif WHAT LUCK...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless you are the L.A. Effin Times, and yell
"Hold Da Presses", it can be a problem getting prepress info to the printer without enough help.
