I started riding quads back in about 1999. Went from a TRX400 to an 03 Piped and jetted KFX400 to an 06 Raptor. I have loved my Raptor after having the suspension done last year, and adding a full HMF system with the Dobek EFI controller. But this last trip I took mom's KFX for a spin. It is also piped and jetted and I was having a blast with it. When I went back to my Raptor It just felt heavy and required me to work a little harder at throwing it around. The grin factor of the Raptor is insane. But I am a tight jumpy guy. Not a drag guy (insert joke here).
Anyway it got me thinking. I am now looking at 44 and still in decent shape. But should I be thinking about scaling down? All weekend I found myself jumping back on the KFX to go play in the smaller dunes behind wash 9. I don't know. What do you think?

Yes..You are getting old.

..Me , I'm getting really old.
Have had a Yammi Wr426, then a Honda 450 Crf x... I'm serious considering a Honda 250Crf x...Just seems lighter and Easier.
Will I miss the power??? That's the question.

Yes, your getting old...but thats OK.
My last quad was a 1986 (i think) honda 250x.
Then I had a sandrail until 2 season ago when I sold my SCU..
Now Im back on a yfz450...and I love it...Sure I go slow...my wife makes me look silly on her suzuki 450r...but I just cruize and have a good time...no hurry for anything..

Yes with age comes the cage. Im 43 and LOVE hoping in the wife rail for a drive. But on the other hand its really fun to hop on the CRF450x(yes oldman bike) and take a long dune ride. Dont but the bike or quad away until you have to is my thought. But I am also spoiled and the wife lets me drive the rail when I want, so the option is there for me.

I have to agree, nice not to be sore after a hard day riding. Us old farts can now outlast our teenage kids sitting around the fire at night. When the car gets boring, which it never does, I can still jump on the quad and take it for a spin.

I don't mind getting old. I don't even enjoy my quad that much any more. I would much rather be in my rail. Smoother ride, more speed etc.
If it wasn't for my son, I would sell my quad.

Call me crazy, BUT I still love 2 wheelers the most. I am 43 and can't get enough of the CRF 450r. I also LOVE the ATC 250r.....The rails are a blast BUT there is somthin about the 2 wheeler in the sand that is just FUN!!!!!
I say as you get older you change and have the ability to to do whatever you want. Be smart, there are some great deals out there that will allow you to trade up or down, I decided to sell my Raptor 700 last week (which I love) and just do the 2 wheeler thing for a while,,,,,,,,,,I see a nice ATC 250r in my future next season..........I miss that thing Bad!!!

I think if you went from the smaller lighter bike to the couch aka the Raptor you would be getting old...... Wife has a 700 and I can't stand the big pig of a bike anywhere but the Dez.

I love my 700 Raptor. Piped, programed. I did like the torque of the 660 but I just dropped a tooth on the front sprocket and now its awesome. perfect for the dunes. Super jumpy now.

I rode quads for a long time then I got into rails for the past six years. Last year I got a ltr450 to ride with my boy. We went out and I was leading my boy and stop to take a break and my boy asked me why I was going so slow. I did not have the balls to tell him that I was scared. So I let him lead and just said that my quad was not as fast as his. It worked so far. I will say one thing after riding for a while I did miss the quad

We just celebrated a fellow riders 60th birthday at Gordon's.
He rides both a CR250 and a quad (couldn't tell you what ?) Anyway out of everyone in the 10-15 riders out every weekend, aging from 26-60 he is by far the most bitchen rider

He leads both the bike and the quad rides and we all know at any time he could tear off and be gone before we even caught on!
pfffffffft Age is nothing - perception is everything! Of course I'm the young buck errrr doe of the group so I've got some time before old age comes knocking at my door

I guess the Raptor takes some more energy to toss around but it really is a very responsive quad but you have to "ride" it. I think it's kind of like a CTS-V, it's big, lots of power, and not the best handling thing but if you really push it, you'll get a kick ass response.
