Looking to get a new beefy bike. The DS650 is 105lbs. heavier but it feels a lot faster then the Raptor. I know Yamaha is good, but I don't know the quality of the DS650. It seems pretty trick. It has the BEST suspension of any bike. What is your opinions or what would you buy?? Would you do any mods on these bikes? If so, what exactly??
Thanks for your input!

The weight issue is a HUGE disadvantage in the sand. While not as noticable in the hardpack, it's still an issue. If your looking for a mostly hardpack bike, keep the DS in mind. If you want a sand toy though, the extra weight is the deciding factor for me. One other thing to note is ElSensei has a DS and while going off a mild jump, bent his axle. Just because they market the bike as a tank doesn't mean it is unbreakable. He loves it though and wouldn't trade it in on a raptor or banshee.

A great mod for the Raptor would be to put a set of wheel extensions on.I installed the Sand Sport Wheel Extension on mine and it makes the quad alot more stable. It really widens out the stance by 3 inches.

Both are very capable dune bikes, no question. However, if you like to modify your bike for more power then go with the Raptor. It is FAR less expensive to build a nice motor for a Raptor as compared to the DS.
You cannot go wrong with either, but weight is a disadvantage in the dunes.
How fair was that, coming from a Raptor owner?

That was my question too.
I went down to the dealer and sat on them,, and the Bombardier was just to big for me.
Both Yamaha and Bombardier have lousy reputations in dealing with customer problems,, so let comfort be your guide.
I'm 6' and 260lbs, and the Raptor seemed to be the right fit.
Woulda' bought either one,, I just picked the one that felt comfortable.
From there on out,, you'll be happy.
