So I go to pick up my trailer from Glamis Dunes Storage last Friday and I find my side storage compartment door pried open and my chairs are gone. I then notice one of my propane tanks has also been taken from its compartment. Lastly the front compartment was also pried open and my table was taken. It was obvious the person/s that did this didn’t have a 751 key or doesn’t know that every trailer there has the same lock. It’s also no secret what the gate code is but then the gate is usually open and anyone can come and go. Between the useless locks on my trailer and the almost total lack of security it’s was only a matter of time.
I’m going to continue to store there during the season but I will be fortifying my compartment doors. I might also leave a 751 key with a map and list of people who have better stuff than me.

That really sucks Mike!
So far, someone has stolen my dump hose, but that's it. I really hate thieves, but when you have that many people storing their rigs in one place, it becomes like a big city, normally (supposedly) honest people don't seem to have a problem stealing from others. I'm surprised we haven't heard of more of this type of stuff.

They probably just needed to borrow it to rectify a shitty situation and then were to lazy to return it.

I had a little discussion with " security" last weekend. I have taken my trailer in and out of there probably 15 times so far this season, I've also taken several of my friends trailers in and out, taken RZRs and Quads on flat beds, etc, never one word. I had a friend borrow a truck from a guy in the camp next to him come and get my trailer, and a buddies trailer in the same day. Never a word. I was never given a sticker, although it doesn't matter as there is no security to even check it. Gate code was supposed to change, that never happened. I'm sure EVERYONE in G knows it.
Anyway, getting to my point, EVERY single time I've pulled up to the shitter tanks, security is right there questioning the hell outta me. Name, lot space, sticker, etc. I asked the guy, why is it I can take hundreds of thousands of dollars out the front gate at will, but the second I try and put some shit in the ground you guys are all over the place???? He just looked at me completely dumbfounded.
I'm not crazy about GDS. Security is basically non-existant.

I used to store there, and wondered when might my trailer might get hit up. Sooner or later, sticky fingers will get caught. I wish the gate codes were scrambled in a way to issue individual codes to each tenant. I know that seems alot to ask because I'm sure it's expensive to do. If anything, maybe a camera on the entrance with real recorded activity. Just a thought. Thanks for making us aware, I'm at another storage now.

Every single storage unit I have used has had a personal gate code for everyone who rented there. It would log when you came in and when you left.
Pretty sure it isn't very expensive.

my trailer broke like 2 seasons ago in glamis and it was towed to glamis storage. When I went to see where it was my electric jack, propaine tanks, with hoses were gone. Doesn't it seem a little fishy that this is going on and has been for at least a few years now and nothing done about it? its not like there is alot of traffic going through that road. Not big city traffic anyway.

My air compressor was stolen from my side compartment also. Me's toy saw my door open and called me and locked me back up! It's funny that compressor was 9 years old lol they left all of the expensive stuff and took that. I agree that the security there is a joke. SUcks you lost some stuff also. I did speak with Jeanette and she said they were working on getting the codes switched????

I have left the keys to my tongue lock at home twice, only to have to bust out the honda 2000 and a grinder. Both times... Loud ass grinding for 10 minutes or more and not one person has come by to see what's going on. I have basically stolen my own trailer twice.

x2 I bet the whole system is less than a thousand. And that price against the cost of the stuff stolen is nothin.

Ya, I'm not thrilled that every time I drive through there I see compartments open or windows broken. I have also mentioned to my hubby that we could take anyone's trailer and never get caught...they really need to step up security!!! Maybe if everyone mentions more security they will do something about it...it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the heads up. I have 2 trailers there and have also wondered why the gate is almost always open? I usually see the one guy than mans the gas / propane pumps and he does recognize us, so not really questioning that. But what about others that are just kind of wandering in and out? Anyway, hope my cheap ass stuff is all ok.

Lets be real here, it could happen just as easy at dunes edge or anywhere else. Plus that gate has been broken for a while now.

Had the RV stored there and when I went to pick up the rig, whoever had parked next to it left a nice crease on the stacker side and on the RV near the door. Informed GDS about it since the space was empty next to us, and they said they'd look into it. Blue paint left behind. I will keep an eye out for that shade of blue! If I find you........
Been 2 months, no response. How can you not know you just swiped a parked rig? Not even leave a note with a number? D-Bags!

Some differences I have noticed; DES has there office next to the gate, GDS has there office back around the corner and there is no way for them to even see the gate. GDS also sells gas, water and propane which is why I think the gate is open at least during the day. DES the gate is closed unless someone is going in or coming out. GDS is a drive away from the dunes. GDS is right at the dunes. I think most of these factors has a lot to do with the problem. The fact is storage lots are shopping malls for thieves. The other problem is RV's are about the easiest things to break into.
