I have a 87 250x last time the bike ran was about 2 months ago and Kenny G had it all fixed up for me. Anyway, Kenny mentioned that my CDI was intermitant so sometimes it worked and sometimes it wouldnt. Tonight I asked my brother to help me start the bike because I don't want to haul it to G and then find out that the pos wont turn over. We tried for about an hour and nothing. The lights coming on and it sounds like it's trying but it's just not starting..I'm no mechanic and I couldn't even begin to troubleshoot, anyone think they might be able to shed some light on this situation? I know the spark plugs are clean and it has a new stator..so what could be causing it to choke like it is? [Confused] [Confused] [Confused]

DB,

Im no mechanic either but, don't overlook the obvious. Is there gas in it? Is the gas on? Is the gas old? Carb could be a little gummed up from old gas. Spark plug wire is tight? Plug may be fouled?

Try the obvious things 1st, if it was running 2 months ago, it can't be messed too bad up since the last ride....sorry I cant help you more..

AL..

No worries..yeah there is gas in it, not old..Well a couple months. Kenny G flushed everything out when he was working on it. The plugs looked fine but then again I don't really know what I'm looking for. My dad refused to help us so we were SOL..I'm gonna take it to G anyway this weekend and I'm sure someone there can tinker with it until she fires. [Smile] You going this weekend? Thanks for the help!

DB, if Kenny said the CDI was having probs, then I would suspect that might be the problem. Assuming, of course, that Kenny was correct. If someone else has a similar Honda at G we could swap CDI units fairly quick and see if that is the problem. If it is, expect to pay a pretty high price for a new CDI. But if you are lucky, the motorcycle shop in El Centro will have one. Good luck!
