Right now I have a 13 tooth sprocket (which I think is stock). I've heard from some people that have been using a 12 tooth or even a 14 tooth. Do you suggest using a 12 tooth or 14 tooth or its better off staying stock with a 13 ??

Andrew, 13 tooth is stock. But why do you want to change your gearing or I should ask what do you want to accomplish with the gearing change?

Do you want more top end power or more off the line power?

more top end would help

OK then go with the 14 tooth. But remember that with the 14 you will be slower at the takeoffs.

This might help. for every one tooth difference up front it's like going up or down 3 teeth in the rear. If going to the 14 is in the right direction for you but to much, then fine tune it in the rear by changing the tooth size on the rear sprocket...

so it would basically just be good to stay with a 13, good all around, whats stock rear, 39 ??

Andrew, Stock rear is 39T. If your bike is stock or even if mildly ported, you don't want to go to a 14T. A good measure is Oldsmobile. What can your bike pull up Olds. If you can get into 4th and stay strong, then stay with your 13. If you get into 4th and you start loosing momentum, drop to a 12 so you can use that gear. Fat chance on using 5th on the hill. I have a 350 Kit and I normally run a 14 in the dunes. A 15 at the track or in dirt. I will be dropping down to a 13 for new years to see if I can use all of 4th gear on the hill. Also, what kind of paddles are you running? V-paddles are forgiving on power so you can run a taller sprocket, If you run a straight paddle, that's more strain on the motor and you should go down. Good luck.

I can hit 4th, but I usually have to drop back to down to 3rd, it won't keep it up. Before I blew the motor I ran a 12, I still couldn't pull 4th up the hill. I don't know now, cause its a new bike basically.

hey wapa check your rear sprocket and see if it is a 38 or 39 some bikes came with a 38 stock and some came with a 39 i run a 12 and a 39 pulls olds strong in 4th
