Hey does anyone have a 350 powervalve on their 250R? I'm getting mine done right now and I wanted to know how much power to expect from it. If any of you know anything let me know...

Thanks ZPS

I almost did that to mine but couldn't justify the cost at the time.....I rode one that was on alcohol and it had MAD power!

You'll like it. Same snap as a 250, but on a whole lot higher level of power. Gear up one on the countershaft and add a couple in the rear.. More power is no good if your geared to low. It defeats the purpose..

Let me know how it works out. I am in the process of starting a new trx and I am strongly looking at the 350 PV. Whose PV are you getting?
DUNE
Ed you building a new quad, where are you going to ride it at? I would luv to get the CT 350pv. But like Shane said, I can't justify the cost. Maybe if I blow up my motor this season I can. LOL [Grenade]

I have 2 CT 350 kits and one if them is a power valve motor. Granted I am a good tuner BUT I weigh 220 lbs and I can run Olds wide open in 5th gear with a 14 - 39 ratio and it is scary fast!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spend the Money!!!!!!!!!! Tell em Fuzzy sent you.
Mister Ed
Yes, Tom, I am very close to starting one.The Rocket punched a big hole in the sky and we are in business so it is time for my new toy. I figured my best bet is to just to go ahead and build it from the ground up and do it my way. That 350PV sounds like my kind of ride, I bet I could climb any tree out here with that, don't you think? I noticed that the PV's are all a bit different. ESR has one that looks like it is operated by a vacuum line and it has no filter on it, while others have a filter and I presume operated by vacuum of some other source since I see no line on them(CT). Anyone know the scoop on the differences?

All power valves are operated by exhaust gas pressure. a small port in the exhaust allows pressure to push against the spring that holds the valve. the more pressure the farther open the valve gets.

I'm getting the engine done right now, it's a CT 350 PV complete power kit. I'm getting the whole thing done right with hinson basket and new clutch with stronger springs. I need to get my frame finished soon. I'm going with the very plush Roll Design desert LOBO II kit front and rear. I plan on running 15-38 on the gears to have a high top end. I want the bike to be a great all around bike not just a hill bike. I'm getting the 4.0 G gas tank also, because I dont want to get stuck out in the hills. By the way I only weigh 140 Lbs. so this thing is gunna scream up olds with me on it. I hope to have it done late this season... see you out there...chris

Hey ZPS. I sure hope you have an endless supply of bucks, cause that project sounds very expensive. Good luck with it. If I see you out in the dunes at Olds, I will be sure and take a couple of pictures of you going like a rocket. Be safe.

in regards to teh question about teh esr and CT power valves and their differences: I spoke with Allen from CT a few months ago when i picked up my PV cylinder from him and i inquired about teh new style valve. He dubbed it, teh "black valve" it is a much cleaner design and according to teh dyno does have performance advantages compared to his current "diaphragm" style valve that he uses. his concerns with teh black valve are with its reliability. not with the valve itself but rather a modification that has to be done to teh slide( the actual piece that moves up and down changeing teh exhaust port clearance) on his current model valve, the slide screws into teh valve. on teh black valve the slide has to be machined and a retaining clip is used to keep it from dropping out of the vavle. his concern is teh wear on teh clip itself. he currently has a few bikes that are using the black valve to test. teh good thing is that those of us with teh current style valve dont need a whole new cylinder if we want to upgrade to teh black valve. both are compatible witeh the pro-x cylinder

I also have the 350PV and would never go back! It's so smooth it feels slow when a new person rides it. It sneaks up on you!
I am 250ish and can't pull 5th on Olds but 4th is doable [Smile]

Here's some more info on the motor:

I had a CT powervalve 350 in the spring of this year and it ran really well. The throttle response was instant and the power spread was smooth. However, prior to my 350 I had an '89 295 non powervalve motor with all the goodies as well. I had a local engine builder here in Utah do the port work and it was faster than my 350 on the hill. My 350 would get out to a quicker start but my 295 would run it down. If I was to get another CT motor I would have someone else do the port work if you're into hillshooting. CT builds a good reliable track motor but I would go somewhere else for port work. Just my .02 pennies.
