Really? Somebody in Washington doing something that might be a good thing?

Curious that the UAW is opposed to this. I guess the idea being more limits requires more engineers, equipment, man hours etc and so therefore more union members? Hello? First we all have to able to afford a car and if it keeps going they will be more than the average guy can swing at.

Washington — The House is set to approve a bill to bar the Environmental Protection Agency and California from regulating tailpipe emissions.

Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has co-sponsored legislation with Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., that would block EPA and California from issuing new regulations limiting tailpipe emissions — and other sources of greenhouse gases.
...

The measure would overturn a 2007 Supreme Court decision giving the EPA authority to regulate tailpipe emissions as a danger to public health under the Clean Air Act.

The ruling allowed California to impose its own tailpipe emissions limits. The prospect of a patchwork of separate state and federal emissions limits has been harshly criticized by automakers.
