No heat, but food for thought...
Is there proof that use of personal water craft, 2-stroke or otherwise, ruins the beauty of places like Tahoe?

So you think Glamis is not beautiful then???????

The problem is the keep Tahoe blue folks are a bit more far reaching than just 2-stroke jet skis. They want to restrict ALL forms of motorized recreation.

| The League encourages users to enjoy low-impact recreational activities in the Lake Tahoe Basin. High impact activities such as the use of snowmobiles, off road vehicles, and jet skis put a tremendous stress on the environment. |
First it is two-stroke jet skis. Then all jet-skis and snowmobiles. Then 4x4 access on the Rubicon trail (which ends in Tahoe). Then all motorized boating. If it was up to them, all we could do is hike, swim and canoe.
You've got to look deeper into these organizations to see what their real intent is. "Keep Tahoe Blue" is a great slogan. Who wouldn't want to keep our water's clean and blue? Environmental groups love to use this type of marketing because it brings in lots of cash. But if you choose to support this organization, you are also supporting efforts to eliminate motorized access on and around the lake.

Not even that in some places... think Oceano and most of Oregon's coastline.

Thor... I own a 2stroke and yes I think glamis is a beautiful place.....
Sail away... Food is what I was talkin about.... Good fishing up there... I honestly dont know the real effects of 2strokes on the water. I know my dad lives up there and he cant ride his on the lake.. Kinda sucks but I guess in the long run of things it helps... I just would hate to see it turn out like lake perris or elsinore....

My point is, they don't either.
Would be interesting to know how easily these oils break down in saltwater.
Coconut oil for all those nice tans, for instance... it leaves a colorful film on the water but is it tasty to the fish?
How much oil is spilled into the water by the personal watercraft anyway? And how much of that versus all that deep tanning slickery? How about sunscreen? Is there more of one than the other?
What is the breakdown of the substance? Is there evidence that it is truly detrimental to the flora and fauna or is this just another case of "it seems like it would be?"
If we "go along" with the idea that 2-strokes are harming our waterways without demanding proof, how long will it be before sunbathers must suffer the same fate?
That's what the land lovers face every day... our tires, the noise of our bikes, the way we ride... the average joe responds with "it seems like it would be" whenever he's asked "is a dirtbike bad for the earth?"
Seems like and found to be are two different things.

I hear what your saying Vicki but if you have ever been to Lake Tahoe its a very cold lake even in the middle of summer that place is freazing.... I agree that sunscreen is just as bad....I just dont think that would be a problem up there...
I think the only reason I started this thread is cause I have heard its bs about 2stroke ban on certain lakes... I honestly dont agree with some of the lakes.. But Tahoe is just one of those awesome places that I enjoy... Maybe because of the peacefulness and beauty...
My dad sold his sea-doo which was a 2stroke and I loved that thing.. I wouldnt mind getting the same kind.. But for what its worth I wouldnt fight tryin for me to be able to use it up there. Basically thats all Im tryin to say...
LOL and basically I was kinda bored and wanted to post in enviromental section since I never have... I didnt wanna be anti anything.. Just state my personal opinion on LAKE TAHOE...

I completely understand
I feel the very same way about Yosemite. I love that place and think it would be awesome to do some leisurely quad riding there.
But I'd never do it.
And thanks, by the way, for making your statement even if it was out of boredom... it helped grease the skids for more conversation

I do think it is pretty up there. I just don't like the MAN telling me what I can and can't do...... maybe there should be no motor boats at all allowed?

Vicki... Half the things I post are from boredom...

I would of posted in whine and cheese but I dont like the Moderater there.....

just kiddin... I think I picked the best place to put it...
I think everyone does there part in there own way for the enviroments that they like to enjoy. Like the last person said the MAN is always coming down on us and our area's we love. Its on us to either obey or to fight for what we think is right......

Well, two strokes are virtually impossible to smog, so "tailpipe" emmissions are extremely high. Since the emmissions go into the water, one could deduce that the water becomes at least somewhat fouled with oil, ect...
Four stroke emmisions are way easier to keep in check. What works in our cars will work on watercraft, smog-wise. Electronic fuel injection is much cleaner that carburetors, ect.
I don't want to pollute anything. If they ban two strokes but allow four strokes, would that be aceptable?
I could live with it.
Now this is hypothetical...don't go off with the "give them an inch and they'll take a mile stuff...!!!
