I love my Raptor but I hate not being able to utilize 2nd and 3rd gear more often. They are geared to high.I thought I read where someone dropped a tooth on the front or rear sprocket to help compensate for this problem.Thanks....

I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket of my 02 Raptor. It is much better. I am in the meat of the power band of any gear much more often. I didn't notice losing much top end because I was rarely tapped out in 5th in the dunes.

I have a 01 Raptor and I droped one in the front and added 4 to the rear (44). Yes its a must for any Raptor owner.

How large can I go on the rear sprocket without getting a new chain? Isn't going up in the rea preferred to decreasing the front due to the extra stress on the chain from a small sprocket?

I was thinking of dropping a tooth on the front sprocket on my 03 Raptor. I am always in and out of 2nd and 3rd. I here that this will cause wear on my chain. Why would this cause wear??

My understanding is that the tighter bend of a smaller sprocket is harder on the chain.

I love it before the gearing change I was running in either 2nd 90% of the time and 3rd 10% of the time. Now I run in 3-4th 100% of the time. I love it, it has done wonders for the bike sure I lost some top end but who cares the thing is really fast anyway. I've got 22x11x8 Skat-Trac 8 paddle haulers. I haven't done anything to it besides the gearing. I'd like to put a pipe on it but until they make one that will meet 93 dbls( I ride the Oregon Dunes I'll get tickets for anything louder) I'll just leave it alone.
