I need help, I have a center load rack and pinion box Just like the one below. What size friggin bolts go into this thing for the ite rods???? I have tried 1/2" coarse thread and 1/2" fine thread. Neither works. I figure they have to be 1/2 since I was given 1/2" misalignment spacers and the bolts have to go through those. This thing is drivin me nuts. I will NEVER use a center load rack again. This has been one problem after another trying to get the right bolts to fit. Are they metric and I was sent the wrong size miasalignment spacers?????
Thanks in advance.

Let me know if you figure it out as I am in need of the same bolts. If I can figure it out I will let you know.

Until then beer.gif

I have the same manufacturer as you (sandrail), He swears by these racks but the first rackone I had broke (oviously from forcing the worng size bolt into it) and this one has been nothing but a pain in the ()$)(@$^%. Trying to get it together for another trip to the nice cool dez this weekend. laughing.gif Might have to take a trip to Mckenzies tomorrow and see if they know. I will make sure the next frame I purchase in about 100 years is set up for a havy duty end load rack.

I'd call the manufacturer who recommends these racks...use what size he says.

try METRIC you might be surprized icon_uhoh.gif if that doesnt work try smash.gif

Center load = less bump steer.

Buy the freakin Saco and be done with your worries.
Take the freggin rack to the shop and fit the bolts and spacers there.

SAND SUBY
Sounds like it is 12mm ,its just a little larger than 1/2.
see if your starter bolt is the right diameter, its 10 mm.
If you have a old vw beam around, the torsion lock screws are 12mm fine
thread,if I remember right.
If all else fails call kenny or darrin , your up that way , I think.

Should be the size of a 426 rear axle bolt icon_biggrin.gif J/k

Well the frame was set of for this type of rack, I had a HEAVY duty off road rack for it but it wouldnt fit the mount. Anyway, Gonna take it with me to American Bolt company today and see if they have something. If that doesnt work will try Mcfaddendales. Might be a ok rack for sand use but for desert use looks pretty cheap to me. Looks like I might have to upgrade in the future but trying to get it fixed by tomorrow for a trip to the high desert.. Anyway, Thanks

thumper, I got the right bolt today, it is a M12 fine thread, I think they call it 100, the coarse thread is 175 pitch. Hope that helps you out.

This illustrates an invaluable, and yet cheap tool to have in your toolbox. Most true bolt (hardware) shops will have a small plastic gauge that has different sized holes, both standard and metric, and the various pitches of each thread, and "studs" to allow you to measure nuts. Should cost less than $5, and I know I've saved that much many times over by making fewer trips to the hardware store.

Yes, that is an invaluable tool, however in this case I dont know if it would have helped. The threads are down inside the rack. I just messed around at the hardware store for a few minutes and guessed on what I needed, got lucky this time.

But I do need one of those tools for other situations.

That is a metric rack it uses 12 x 1.25 bolts or with a good tap you can open it to a 1/2 x 20
