So have a 2 seater mid engine with a northastar and Im pulling out the megasand trans thats in it and upgrading to a Mendeola 2D. I want to find a new shifter setup to go with the 2D and I have been looking at the AJ speed shift system and the PBS engineering shifter. I really want the AJ speed hydraulic setup but its pretty pricey. Anyone have any imput on either of these setups or a suggestion on any other setups??

I tried a few, none really worked all that well, went to a s4. I did talk with John with out front motorsport, the subi man, he did have a very good set up and probably still does. I would get with him before making any decision. John has a way of making everything work great.

There was a AJ system listed in the buggy parts section here a while ago. I went with the PBS system, but have not set it up yet.

I just installed ths PBS set-up on my dads buggy with a 2-D, and it works really well... he says the trans has never shifted so smooth. really was very simple to install and routing the cables was not difficult... we installed the shifter up front and added alot of bracing to the mounts so it would be very solid, then installed the nose cone to get an exact measurement for cables... cables were in hand in about 4 business days. I would recommend you add some side gussets to the nose cone cable mount because it flexes around without them. any questions or pics needed feel free to pm me

I took out an AJ Speed shifter. Went with a PBS unit. Had to beef up the brackets quite a bit to make it work right. I liked the AJ because You always' knew where the shift handle was when beating out in the dunes. It was always' in in one spot when you went to grab it. The PBS you have to remember where it is second down to the lower left or third up to the upper right. Makes a big difference when you need to grab it in a hurry for a down shift and your on the side of a big hill. They both have there plus's and minus's. The PBS is a nice shifter. Just needs some extra work while installing. And then getting use to and H pattern again. Note the extra bracket welded to the left side of the cable support in the picture. You also need and extra support welded to the front compartment shift bracket to stabilize it. Don't get your cables so long that you have any more curves then needed. The more curves you have the more fiction there is. Keep them as straight as you can. The extra polished bracket in the picture is going to be for a revere lock out when it is done.

That is some good info there, that is much appreciated!!!!! Which shifter was better in your opinion?? Im leaning toward the aj speed just cuz i like the overall setup and shifting ease? What were the cons of the AJ??

Also do you still have the AJ that you were selling??
