I run Castor 927(40:1) in my bike and Carrie's Banshee, never had any problems. Golden Spectro is great as well.

i find this as an odd question. these are different types of oil by two different manufacturers one castor and one synthetic
the castor is a superior oil but it tends to separate from the fuel after sitting
i use super m which is equivalent to the spectro and run it at about 60:1

It kinda wanted to know what you guys thought of golden spectro and at the same time a synthetic vs. castor question...
I always ran Yamalube, but before a trip to G, I didn't have time to go buy Yamalube, so a friend picked me up a 64 of Spectro... I've been running that and wanted to know what you guys thought of it. My buddy that got me the oil runs 927 in his banshee and he's on the same top end since 95, so I wanted to know what would you guys recommend over the two oils. I read on maxima's website that 927 is for motors that are torn down at shorter intervals. I just wanna run something that'll make my bike last long, since I don't have the cash to be rebuilding too frequently.
I'm a heavy guy, would castor 927 be better for a bike that carries a 'bigger load'?
gracias
oh yeah, castor does smell pretty good.. hehehe I should switch just for the smell

Ive been running my banshee since 92 I put in one set of pistons about 2 yrs ago just because i was testing a different coating on my pistons, went with a ceramic coating on the top and a dry lube on the side and with that I tighten up the piston to cylinder clearance

Castor has a high film strength but burns very dirty. It will gum up power valves.
A fully synthetic is best. I've ran yamalube in the past(semi syn.) and always had a lot of carbon build up on my exaust valve when re doing the top end. For the last year or so I've ran Red-line(full syn.) and have had great results. Burns clean, no spooge and very little carbon build up.
Oh yeah, Red-line also smells good.
thanks a lot for all of your feedback, guys!!
oh yeah... should I stay with the 32:1 that I'm running?? (fmf fattys) jetted at alba, K&N single air filter, airbox w/o the lid. don't know what size jets it has, just whatever they do to their banshees when they sell 'em...

I run spectro in the green machine at 32:1 or 36:1, Mike you're running it 52:1 if your putting those little bottles into 5 gallons....I messed mine up that way.

16 ounces to 5 gallons is 40:1
640 ounces in 5 gallons... 640/16=40
640/20=32 <--32:1

I like the smell of Golden Spectro and of Castor. I run BelRay H1-R 50:1 now in my bike. Always ran BelRay products. But, they are all good oils. It's all just a preference.

can you run lean ratios like 40:1 or even leaner on a banshee?? I run at 32...

I know lots of guys that run 40:1 in Banshees, although most run at 32. I run Spectro 40:1 in a 1982 YZ465. Air cooled even. Runs great. If you think 927 smells good, you should try Torco GP7 in Unocal 110. Now that smells gooood.

i used to use 927 exclusively but when i put a new top end in my cr250 the power valve was really gummed up bad. so i changed to super m and the next top end job the powervalve was almost spotless almost no goo at all.I do all my friends top ends and have had them switch to super m because it makes the job much easier and it keeps your power valve moving freely.i've always run between 32.1 and 40.1. it seems that the 927 only smells good because it costs more and gums up.

what a trip... so many different outcomes from people using oil... I guess that's what makes it hard for me to choose. I liked the spectro I'm using right now, but I've met a few people already who have ran their bikes for 6 years + on 927 without having to rebuild. I went and bought me a jug of 927 cuz most people say it's better lube, and since I'm a big guy I wanted more protection. Me riding is like pulling a trailer for my bike hehehehe. We'll see how it works...

ITS NOT GOOD TO MIX SYTH & CASTROLS IF YOUR USING ONE STICK /W/ IT TILL YOU REBUILD DON'T KNOW THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT BUT THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD BY PEOPEL WHO I TRUST .

I've heard the same thing, but my friend who has had the same top end on his banshee since 95 switched from synth to castor and the thing still runs pretty strong. And, he's a big guy as well. They should just make one oil, so we wouldn't have to make decisions!! hahaha.

BIG GUY LTTEL GUY DON'T MAKE DIFF ON MOTER BUT MAKES BIG DIF ON THE CLUTCH ,THATS WHAT A BIG GUY WILL WEAR OUT NOT THE MOTER FRICTION WEARS THE CYL. WALL NOT THE BIG GUY ON IT'S BACK . YOU SHOULD BE CHANGIN THE OIL IN THE GEAR BOX MORE OFFTEN THAN MOST. I USE MOTUL TRANSOIL 10W30 FOR 2-STROKE GEARBOX /W/ WET CLUTCH . JUST A THAUGHT .

I guess we all have our opinions, dont we.I think this is a good question.I run Maxima 927,with V.P. c-12,in my 250r.I mix at 32/1 I have heard also, not to switch brands or types of oil, just stick with what has been in it.Good luck with whatever you choose Sal,Sean.

If you ride a two stroke the goal is not to see how long you can go between topends! If you ride your bike at all and even more if you go to the dunes it is very important to change your topend once a year at least. or at least the rings. two strokes work very hard and need service. If you do you will notice huge power gains. your buddy who has not changed his top end in his banshee since '95 LOL i bet i could run up the hill faster than him on that clapped out bike
![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)
. run that 927 perfume and then open her up after 6 mo and tell me what you see
![[Wink]](wink.gif)
(just remember top ends are cheaper than cylinders and cranks)
